Iam "considering" breeding my female for family purposes, still have a lot of reseach to do and a bid decision to make, I dont take this lightly, how many pups does this breed usually have, this is my first maltese and have several people in my family who are dog lovers and want one, so just curious on the average litter size to help us decide Thanks Teresa |

Maltese: PLEASE HELP US!
|
Posted Date: 2002-11-25 17:38:35 By: sherrygiffin
Please help!
We just lost the love of our life this morning due to liver complications, her name is Penny, she is a very small female Maltese. She was almost 13 years old. We purchased her from a in-home breeder out in Ranch Cucamonga (Ontario area), California near Baseline off the 15 fwy. The women actually breed Maltese out of her 2-story home.
Penny was the runt of the liter, which we believe was a total of 4 puppies.
Unfortunately, we do not have the details of the breeder anymore. If anyone, in your network of people, by any chance know who the breeder may have been. We live in Anaheim Hills, California and even though its the last thing on our mind, we want to search for this breeder for a future puppy.
Our dream would be to get the same blood line in the future as our Penny was by far the "best" dog in the world. If anyone can be so kind and help us, we would be forever grateful.
Sincerely,
Steve & Sherry Giffin

Maltese: House Training for 5 yr. Old
|
Posted Date: 2002-10-12 16:56:18 By: Westchester
Hello everyone,
I hope someone out there can provide some advice on how to house train a 5 yr old Maltese. We adopted him from the shelter this past spring (someone found him by side of freeway, poor thing). He is a sweet, loving dog however I don't think he was ever properly house trained by his previous owner (given his abandonment on the freeway, I'm not surprised). He may have just used newspaper in the kitchen. Anyway, we have been trying to house train him for the past 6 months with no luck. He is pretty strong willed, and he will pee anywhere, anytime he feels like it. We take him out every hour, but it still doesn't really help. We scold him when he pees inside the house, but it doesn't help. Crate training also doesn't work b/c he has no problem with urinating all over himself (it fact, he seems to like the ripe smell).
Is it too late to house break a 5 year old dog? Any suggestions on how to effectively house train at this age?
Thanks! |

Maltese: Bought Dog with False Papers
(2 Responses)
|
Posted Date: 2001-05-23 11:30:34 By: Snowdogtm
Hi, my name is Toni and I have a very big problem. In 1996 I bought a female Cocker with AKC papers from an individual who had placed an ad in the Classifieds. She was a gorgeous Cocker, and we bred her and had 4 litters before I retired her to a good home where she'd be the only pet and get all of the attention. Last year I got a phone call from the dog's breeder (not the person that I bought her from) in which she notified me that the dog that I was breeding couldn't be the one whose name was on the papers because that dog had died in 1994. The AKC has been notified and is doing an investigation. When they contacted the person whom I purchased the dog from she made up an outrageous story in which she claimed that I was an aquaintance who came to her house often and I must have stolen the papers from her home, and used them on a different dog. This is outrageous as I had never met her in my life except to buy the dog from her. This will affect hundreds of dogs as she was bred, her puppies were bred, etc. etc. I've done all that I can to prove that I was defrauded in this, including producing two witnesses who knew that she did, indeed, sell me the dog with those papers, but it looks like it's just going to be a question of whom they believe, me or her. I am worried about losing my AKC privileges, and about all of the dogs from this line losing their papers. It's a big mess and lots of people are going to get hurt. Has anyone ever been through a similar situation, and if so, what did you do? Toni |

Hi everyone...
My company just started a Pet modeling division(pretty neat), anyway...if you would like to have your little ones considered, they would model doggie bandanas and various items, be seen on all major internet networks, including Amazon...plus possibly photos used for mugs, calenders, postcards...etc.(and if your like me you end up buying the stuff yourself...HA!) We actually handle people models, but ince I am such a doggie nut(I had a shih tzu and he was my pride and joy...passed away:(...now we have boxers-woof!)I suggested we go forward with this project. If you want considered send me your pets photo and name, your name, address and phone to wishnet3234@aol.com. W.I.S.H. Network is members of the NE PA BBB. |

I brought my 12 week old Maltese home 5 days ago and want to crate train her. She is very unhappy and cries for an hour or so. She then wakes at 5:00 am and will not go back to sleep. Any help will be appreciated. Do I let her cry and hope she will eventually be okay and am I expecting too much too soon. I have a yorkie and he was not problem to train. |

I have a female maltese that just turned 2 in march. She is going to be in heat anyday now. I just noticed that her skin is starting to get dark spots. Her hair is still white, but she now has small spots all over her body. Can anyone tell me if this is normal due to maturity, or is it something I should worry about? She doesnt seem sick and still is playful as always. If anyone knows anything about this I appreciate your help. Thanks!!! |

My 4 yr. old male maltese has just recently had faint but definetly noticable patches of light tan or fawn colored hair appear on his here-to-fore snow white coat. The vet said while he thinks is "odd", he cant find anything wrong.
His coat has been cut close this summer, it usually is kept fairly short, not the tradional maltese show cut.
The patches are located on his back where he cant be licking at them io cause discorolation.
Anyone with similar experiences?
Does it go away or is it here to stay?
Will it become more pronounced?
Would appreciate any responses
Thanks,
Ken (Big Cormac)
ps. Youve probably deduced the dogs name is Cormac. |
