I'd like to tell everyone that if you are looking to buy a puppy, do not buy from a breeder who does not use the AKC to register their dogs. AKC and APR are worlds apart when it comes to quality of records kept, and reputation of breeders patronizing the registry. APR was founded to cover a need of disreputible breeders who could no longer register their dogs with AKC because of various reasons. Many were suspended by the AKC for rules violations. Some purchased dogs with spay neuter contracts and limited AKC registration, and choose to break those contracts and breed anyway. To register their puppies, they went with APR, so they could get more money for 'registered' puppies.
BUYER BEWARE!
If you are buying a puppy, make sure you get a guarantee for health that exceeds 1 year. An ethical breeder will provide at least 5 years, and possibly a lifetime guarantee against hereditary defects.
Make sure you get a guarantee that the puppy is AKC registered. Anything else is worth less than the paper its written on.
