I am planning on breeding my male and female Chocolate Labs. My female is 2 yrs old last month. She is still very, very puppy like and I am afraid that maybe she will not be mentally ready for puppies and will choose to play all the time rather then take care of the pups. Is this possible? Or will the natural mother instint come to play? |

I have a friend who has a eight month old male yellow lab. Lately he has been limping around alot. At first they thought it was because he was over working himself playing ball. I have a 4 year old weim and we can play ball 4 hours a day and he never limps. Could it be a start of hip dysplasia or another serious problem? I just do not believe that a 8 month old puppy should be having these sorts of problems. Any advice is very helpful and appreciated!!! |

I want a black female puppy. She must be a daughter, or grand-daughter, or great-granddaughter of Ch. Marshland Blitz. I know he was one of the best blacks ever and and to love and care for his progengywould be an honor. If you are reading this and know of a breeder that was lucky enough to get some of Blitz's frozen legacy I would appreciate it if you would pass this on to her/him. Or if anyone could help me contact Blitz's owner, that would be another option. I have 3 yellows now all of EXCELLENT ancestry and want a black. Thank-you in advance for your help. Labrador Retriever: red mange?? Hereditary??
|
Posted Date: 2003-09-16 12:53:47 By: Mytwodogs
My black Lab is 11 months old and so far has been the picture of health. recently he developed a spot over his eye. within a day it was the size of a quarter and looked infected, I took him to the vet and they said it was red mange and that it's hereditary? He gave me an ointment but it's not looking any better, in fact it looks a bit worse, I called and he said that it takes about a month to take effect. Has anyone else gone through this? and how long did it take to go away? I'm worried because it's right by his eye. :( |

He wears great looking bandanas around his neck and it appears they sell them on this website. Take a look for yourself!

Hi all,
I have a beloved 12 year old black lab named Guinness. He has
recently begun to struggle with arthritis in his back legs and he
already was suffering from the beginnings of congestive heart
failure. Recently however, a friend of mine turned me on to a new
nutritional supplement for dogs called Canine Health Formula. It is
a specific blend of fatty acids known for its antiinflammatory and
heart protecting effects. Since I have started Guinness on this
daily supplement he has been like a new dog. I can't remember the
last time he was able to walk without a limp, and he never seems to
labor anymore. I asked my vet about it and he wholeheartedly
supported my decision to start him on this. Nonetheless, I just
wanted to pass this info along to my fellow dog owners. I definitely
think it is worth a try. Also...my friend actually told me that the
reason he was using it in the first place is the effect it has on
stopping itching from allergies. I don't know much about this
because, luckily, my dog never suffered from them. I ordered mine
off of the website. I will provide the link for any that think that
it may be of help to their dog.

Labrador Retriever: "gunky eyes!"

Hi all I have a wonderful 3 1/2 month old choc Lab whom I adore. He's my first Lab in a long line of wonderful pups! Every morning he wakes up with quite a bit (1/4 teaspoon!??) of clear to white "gunk" in the corners of his eyes. We noticed it early on and the vet put him on cream eye antibiotic but I haven't seen much difference. Also I remove a very small ball (smaller than dime) of this gunk from hisi eyes. Any suggestions? I hate to use unneeded frugs. Is this normal like our "sandy eyes" Any help appreciated Thanks |

I'm sorry to inconvenience you..I'm new at this, but I have a yellow lab who is very sick. She is suffering from renal failure, a failure of the kindeys and currently she is on dialysis. She wont drink nor will she eat. She is going through the tremors and is vomiting. She can't keep anything down, She has high BUN and creatine levels, which are toxins from digestion than the kindneys can no longe remove from the blood. We love her, my girlfriend and I. I have lsot a cat from being run over and a dog from parvo and there was nothing I could do. I told myself if I ever were in that situation, that I would do whatever I could to save my animal. My girlfriend and i are not going to give up on her, but we will be out of money before we can tave her. Currenty as of this week, we are already 5000 in and the surgery that she needs, the transplant is very very expensive (around $12,000) and we are moving forward. We simply refuse to let her wither away and die when since she is young has a healthy shot thru a transplant. Please if someone is reading this ad.. i ask if you could donate a little to save little bubbless. Any little amount large or small will help..ANY help! It will help from helping to run match tests to the actual transplant cost itself. AT any rate, this is taxing and i would appreicate any help that can be given. Bubbles is currently @ the uc davis vet school hosptital in san diego..ph#858 759 7235. Where she is hooked up to dialysis, which costs 1500 per week after the dog has stabilized. Feel free to see how she's doing or check my ad out

I have been researching breeds for the last month and would greatly appreciate any advice on the rec. breed of dog given the below info:
Living Situation: I am single in a home with a small fenced yard; live in suburban area
Time away from the house: Graduate student; summers I do most of the work at my house (away 3-6 hrs/day); winters and falls I will be away 4-9 hrs/day
I am looking for a breed w/ the following characteristics:
Temperament: relatively laid back (ie likes human contact, medium energy, but can handle the time I am away)
Living conditions: access to small fenced yard (house)
Grooming: 1x/week
Shed: Light to medium
Size: Medium
Exercise: I am an active person and plan on a daily walk/run w/ my dog; weekends would be devoted to playing frisbee, catch, etc

My dog appears to get really sore after exercising with some degree of effort. She is still when getting up and appears somewhat arthritic. She's only 2 and her hips and such were cleared as a puppy but she hasn't been x-rayed in a while. Any idea on what this might be and what we should do about it? (She just went to the vet last month, before we noticed this). Perhaps we need to take her back. |

I can use any advice or tips on showing a 2 yr old chocolate male . He has lovely head excellent movement from the side on the go round nice tail level top line. His faults are that he is long in loin and on the down and back he flips his right foot in just enough to be noticeable. He has presented quite nicely and I have had favourable comments from well known breeders, but no points or even RWD. I am a first time handler and I am trying to do my best .I was agroomer and I also own a MAsters agility lab AAC) but this seems to be a whole new ballgame. I have attended conformation classes and picked the brains of all the handlers who weren' tired of talking to me lol. Any help? |

I bought my son a black lab for Christmas from a pet store,( which I never do, I always get my dogs from breeders) but he didn't have papers, they gave me some story about the owners splitting and one having the papers and the other having the puppies so the woman sold them to the pet store. I have always had Labs, and he looks identical to them the only thing is he has a spotted tounge and I have never seen that in a lab before. Everyone that sees him asks if he has Rotwiler mixed in him? not that I care if he isn't purebred, he's a great dog and i wouldn't trade him for anything, but i don't like paying a purebred price and told the dog IS purebred if he isn't. He actually looks identical to the black lab on the homepage of the lab message board. Can anyone tell me if I paid $300 for a mixed dog??? I have pictures. also, he is HUGE!!! 6 months old and weighs over 60 pounds, and he's not fat... just HUGE!!
thanks! |

ok, I apologize no forany of you who are sqeamsh or just dont like upsetting dog stories, but I need your help.
Yestraday we took my 9 year old black lab to the vet, she gt vaccines, ad a check-up and hey gave her a clean bill ofhealth. They said she more healthy than she ever could be. We took her home and she was tired (but she always is after shots and stuff), and ataround 1:00 am, my brother noticed that she was shaking a lot and REALLY cold (she does shake rom time to time, when she is ahving a bad dream or something -refrain from laughing at htat comment- but as soonas we wake her p she stp shaking and goes back to sleep normally). Then this mornig we woke up and found vomit, poop, and urine all over the hous and we found our dog dead. It could have been a heart attack, ut we doubt it because I don't think heart atacks are radual (and we noticed it at 1:00 am, and we were up a few hours after that) and she COULED have eaten something poisonous, but we can't think of anythig sh could have gotten. She could have beenbit by something, but again we are not sure. doesanyone hae any idead or have also expiernced this dilema? i would really apprciate your help. or ideas. |

Labrador Retriever: rabies in dogs
|
Posted Date: 2003-04-10 04:10:53 By: nayakutty
Dear friend
I have a genuine doubt about rabies. I would like to know whether the dog, which has vaccinated antirabby, is safe from rabies. Some of the doctors told me we have to vaccinate again if the dog is bitten by a rabid animal. If it is so what is the use of antirabby vaccine.
Is the rabies is originated from the body of dogs itself, without contact of rabid animal, bats, or raccoons.
Some people say if vaccinated a dog antirabby, it will not show the symptoms of rabies though its affected rabies. Is it true?
Please reply

I have aquired 3 Labs that have been raised together since puppies. One chocolate male, one black female and one white with yellow trim female. All are adults and the people were not able to keep them. All 3 were kept in a kennel together and I do believe the white female is pregnant by the chocolate male. I'll know in a few weeks. I do not have the papers on the Labs but they are all 100% full blooded and the puppies will be also. I need to find good homes for them in Louisiana. I'll be asking a small fee of $75 each pup to help out with costs. I don't even think the people who had them knew about the female being pregnant. They just fed them, they don't even know basic commands, I don't want the same to happen to the pups so serious inquiries with lots of love and training to give please. |
