Please help with saved pup!

I just got a pup from what I now think may have been a puppy mill. I know I should have walked away, but I felt so bad for the little girl. She looked so sad and was extremely dirty and covered with fleas. It broke my heart. I took her and cleaned her all up and she seems to be doing much better. I am bringing her to the vet tonight, but I wanted to know if there are any health issues specific to Italian greyhounds. What tests should be done, besides the basic shots and worms, that I should look for? I also want to report this man. Who should I contact first, the police or SPCA? I could here dogs crying in the back, but there were so many overgrown bushes and weeds it was hard to see. He was definitely hiding them! When he went upstairs I ran to take a look and there were several dogs in small dirty pens. I felt so bad. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, Lisa, report that man to anyone who will listen! You may also want to contact your local humane

society to hear their suggestions. There is also an IG rescue web site...I dont have the address, but they

would be very interested in helping you shut down a puppy mill. There are lots of health issues with

Italian Greyhounds. You can go to http://italiangreyhound.org/concerns.html to read up on these issues.

They are really expensive breeds to maintain. One major concern is their teeth, which may fall out withing

2-5 years if not taken care of properly. They also are sensitive to the usuall anesthetics that vets use,

so make sure your vet knows which understands this special breed! Please read up on everything you

can find reguarding IGs. There is lots of info. on the net. This type of dog isnt for everyone! I probably

would of done the same thing you did and take the poor little thing home! I rescued my little IG, Cleo,
