Italian Greyhound: warm apparel
|

I've been hunting for a durable winter snow jacket for Petuno. He loves it when I dress him up to keep him warm. I found a site online and went absolutely bonkers when I saw what this company had to offer. They sell items from small dog apparel to all-size accessories to pet treats and pet care products. I bought those Share-A-Treats and some Brut Cologne too, hahaha. They manufacture their own rompers (indoor and outdoor) as well as capes and bathrobes. What I like about this compnay is that they really care about animals. They donate 10% of all their purchases to different animal charities around the globe. It also seems as if they are a well-rounded company that not only caters to animals but they take part in children's educations. You'll see what I mean when you check out MaxeeAlexander.com |
Italian Greyhound: behaviour

My six-month-old puppy is a joy to us, but has some bad behaviour that always occurs in the evening around 6 PM.
"Wild" running, jumping, humping, biting, stealing trash, etc., and refusing to settle down for half an hour or so. I cannot figure out what turns him on at this time to this set of behaviours. And, therefore, I cannot figure out a way to curb it. |

We also use Second Nature dog litter. Our IG will use it if we prompt her, but she's still a little hesitant. Maybe she needs just a little more training.
We order through petsmart.com online. Just do a search from the homepage for "second nature". |
Italian Greyhound: IVD Dog Food
|
Posted Date: 2003-01-19 14:47:54 By: IGLover
Does anyone use IVD brand dog food for their IGs? Ours is on the Venison and Potato Limited Ingredients Diet because of her gastro-intestinal problems.
We live in Naples, Italy and it's impossible to get IVD dog food here. We used to order from online stores, but now the manufacturer has stopped all home delivery for the IVD line of foods.
We can order from our vet in the states, but it takes so long to get here because she sends it via UPS to a forwarding service which then sends it to us via US Postal Service Priority Mail.
We would like to buy a few cans for now until our order comes in. If anyone can help, please post a message or send us an e-mail. We can send you the money via PayPal.
Thank you very much.

We have fallen head over heels with our 2 year old male, Bobby, we have had him for a year and a half, and just love the breed. We would love to find a female for companionship, not to breed, as bobby is nuetered and she would be spayed. We live in Arkansas, Texarkana area, and can travel, texas, arkansas, louisiana for the right dog, any age from puppy to 3 years okay. We would love to adopt an adult in need of a good home. Bobby is spoiled immensely! Looking for someone in the four states area

Italian Greyhound: Caution Part 2
|
Posted Date: 2002-08-15 17:05:28 By: iglover19
I was in your shoes once, so let me tell you what not to do. I got my puppy from a breeder in South Dakota, who I found over the internet (I live in Michigan). I thought I had asked all the right questions pertaining to health, whether she sold to petstores and medical facilities, etc. 11 months later, I'm now finding the truth out about this so called breeder. She is a commercial breeder, otherwise known as a puppymill. She does not care about the health of her puppies, it's just about the money for her. I know this because my IG was recently diagnosed with Legg-Perthe's disease. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a genetic disorder that ultimately results in surgery to have the ball of the hip joint removed - costing a couple thousand dollars. Luckily, my puppy has not reached the stage for surgery but I feel that it will happen in the not too distant future. If your puppy ends up with a genetic disorder, always tell the breeder! I notified my breeder of it and at first she didn't even know what it was really - couldn't find it in her IG book or in her vet book. I sent her a copy of what I found about it and her response was to just make a note of it in the dam's file. To me, that is not a concerned breeder. I'm taking action to see that she gets her license revoked and is hopefully shut down. So unless you want to end up in my shoes and in the shoes of several others, be overly cautious when you talk to breeders. If they ask a lot of questions of you and your home environment, chances are that they are good. If anyone has questions about this or about the breed itself, don't hesitate to ask. |

I see a lot of people on here are looking for IG puppies. First, read everything you can get your hands on about this breed. Like it's been said before, this breed is not for everyone! Second, do your research when it comes time to pick a breeder. |

Our new IG is 3 yrs old and is a great little dog. He seems to be getting a handle on peeing in his litterbox, but the big problem is his poop. He will never poop in his box no matter how hard we try. Does anyone have suggestions on how to handle this? Thanks. |

Italian Greyhound: Please help with saved pup!

Posted Date: 2000-08-10 12:36:00 By: Lori
I just got a pup from what I now think may have been a puppy mill. I know I should have walked away, but I felt so bad for the little girl. She looked so sad and was extremely dirty and covered with fleas. It broke my heart. I took her and cleaned her all up and she seems to be doing much better. I am bringing her to the vet tonight, but I wanted to know if there are any health issues specific to Italian greyhounds. What tests should be done, besides the basic shots and worms, that I should look for? I also want to report this man. Who should I contact first, the police or SPCA? I could here dogs crying in the back, but there were so many overgrown bushes and weeds it was hard to see. He was definitely hiding them! When he went upstairs I ran to take a look and there were several dogs in small dirty pens. I felt so bad. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you.

Has anyone tried housetraining their IG to use a doggie litter box? We live in the Pacific Northwest where it very often is cold and rainy. Our adorable IG hates going outside. Who can blame him? I wouldnt be able to relax enough to pee or poop if I had to do it outside in a cold rain wearing only a tee shirt! Any advice would be appreciated. |

Italian Greyhound: re: Doggie Litter Box
|

Were in Tacoma, WA- I acquired an Iggie thru greyhound rescue. My Goddess, I mean girl cant go pottie if shes cold, wet or anyones looking. etc., so shes paper trained. Actually we used a bathroom rug with a plastic bag under it and paper on top. She likes the pads from the pet stores or medical supply. I dont see why you couldnt litter bx train any dog, I used to work in a kennel and I have seen stranger things.
If your dog is currently utilizing the same spot indoors, youre half way there. Cover that spot with a puppy pad (some companies use scent to make it more appealing to dogs), and praise the dogs when it uses the pad. After a while you can replace the pad with first the litter box with a pad in it, then just the litter box or box w/litter. Good luck. |

Italian Greyhound: IG play fights
|
Posted Date: 2000-04-03 18:48:00 By: TM
Hi, saw your name on the web and had a quick question for you...we have a female that is 6 months and just got a 7 week female. They are both IGs. They seem to have fun playing but the playing gets a bit rough with the little biting and paw slaps and wrestling. The little one can hold her own!! She dishes it out and chases back and growls...etc and rarely lets out even a whimper. She seems to love it and is not afraid.
My question is, is it okay to let them play as they want? Will this create a monster out of the pup? Anything negative to watch out for?
Thanks for your time!! |
