Greater Swiss Mountain dog pricing?

For the past few weeks, I have been courting a GSM breeder and seem to have finally won his/her confidence in obtaining the puppy. Throughout my extensive research and socialization with other GSM owners, I have learned a great deal more about the breed and feel like I am fairly well educated about the GSMs. Now, it is time to put the money forth and start building a relationship with my new puppy. The breeder seems to be wonderful and has been extremely cooperative in answering all of my questions and concerns. However, I have not put the price question to her yet because I didnt want to seem monetarily infatuated, which I am not. I would, however, like to know the general opinion of a fair price range for a show quality puppy that has a very good heritage. The owners I have spoken to have all paid approximately $1200 for their puppies, but they are not breeders and only own their one dog. Any information you might provide would be extremely appreciated so I have an idea of how

Im afraid you are looking for a bidding war with your puppy price and you are going to turn off any breeder who reads this. Every breeder sets a price on their puppies and generally sells according to quality(as best you can tell at a young age) and backs it with a contract to assure you are getting what was sold. Most breeders sell Pet(companion dog) and show breed quality with the later being higher priced because they are going to guarantee more aspects of this dog being acceptable for show or breeding. Each breeder is an individual and there are no guarantees as to the integrity of the breeder so buyer beware to that. Most breeders will also work with some one as to price as there are a lot of options there, one being co-ownership. Also when you quote prices someone else paid that may have depended on when their dog was purchased as to last year or eight years ago, prices have increased through the years! No inflation in this country...but that is another topic!
