HELP!! My "husband to be" is being held captive in his own house by my Gordon Setter!!
In the past 6 months, my 6 year old, in tact, male Gordon, "Briar" (Ch. Chapman Jackson) has had some MAJOR changes in his environment. At Christmas, we lost his lovely 9 year old mother to a brain tumor, and one month later he and I moved 2300 miles across the country where I am to be married soon. John owns 20 acres of land and raises quarterhorses (he is away from our home at his office weekdays). Since the move I have been home with Briar every day. Although he has always been very close to me, this 24 hour a day thing, coupled with these other changes have made him even more dependent and he is now practically "velcroed" to me. Now the BIG problem: He has become very aggressive to John. John, who is a natural animal lover, has always been very sweet, kind and loving to Briar, and they had what seemed to be a good relationship going, although from time to time there would be a moment when |

Hi, we are looking for a recommendation for a good dog food to put some weight on our 2 year old male. Rusty runs all day long and eats between three and four cups of Nutra Nuggets dog food supposedly "formulated for stamina and rigorous activity". Tried different brands, but Rusty is still pretty skinny. No worms. Any suggestions would be helpful. Also, looking for a method of getting him through a severe case of carsickness. Cant go much more than a couple blocks without an upset stomach and drooling. Can you help? Thanks. |

I plan on breeding my two-year old Gordon this Fall. Sage, was rock solid on point her first time out and retrieved every bird to hand the second time out... she was only eight months old at the time and I shot both grose and woodcock over her. At nine months we went to Idaho where I shot pheasants, Hungarian partridge, and California quail over points. When she was a year old she was hired to be a guide dog at an Orvis endorsed wingshooting lodge. She has been trained on and has hunted only WILD birds.
She is a small field Gordon at about 42lbs. and I am looking for a small field male, 50-60lbs. My goal is to have fine and affordable pups that are for sale to HUNTERS ONLY! thanks |

We live just outside of Warrenton, VA and have lots of room for our "babies". We now have 3 English
Setters and an Irish. Two dogs are with our trainer in Maryland. All are family dogs as well as field trial
(walking only) dogs and are competed regularly. We do not hunt, but just enjoy watching our brood run
and do what they do best in the field. "Bailey" our little English has a good chance for puppy of the year
at the Three Rivers Sportsman Club in Maryland. All our dogs get much TLC, perhaps a little too much
at times - OK we spoil them. But that is why we have them. We are looking for a Gordon to adopt to
give a wonderful home and life to and would appreciate information to that end. We are very tolerant
parents using non-abusive training and instilling confidence in our dogs, tempered with obedience. All
our dogs are gentle wonderful animals. Please respond if you can help us find a Gordon in need of a
good home. |

I have a 3 year old GS male that is very stylish and is a great bird finder. In training sessions he stands his birds with great intensity and desire. In a field trial situation for some reason when you approach for the flush he wants to circle or round up the birds. I have not been able to break the habit. When he is in training he stands perfectly in the field trial setting, he circles. Is this a gordon trait. If so, is there a way to break it? Please email me at www.birddoghandler.com |

Over the past 10 years I have had a number of Field Gordon Setters. One of them stood out above all the rest from a hunting and field trial standpoint. He was out of the wonderful Belmor line of dogs. I have searching to find a female sired by Belmors Knight or line bred Belmor. Please email me at birddoghandler@aol.com if you have this type of breeding for sale.

My family recently lost our beloved Gordon, a rescue who was chronically ill. He arrived in our home and our hearts on October 23, 1999, and passed away July 2, 2000. We are broken hearted, having come to love our Oliver as well as the breed he represented. The financial aspect of his care placed a great burden on us. We therefore cannot afford to bring another FurBaby into our home now. We would, however, like to adopt in one year--perhaps June or July of 2001. If anyone knows of a Gordon, gentle of disposition, eager of spirit, good with other dogs (a crippled Maltese and a small mixed breed), a Gordon who is not keen, between 3 and 7 years old, we would like to hear of him or her. We own a home that is partially fenced, and both our doggies and our cat are current with all shots and licenses. We have no small children and although my husband and I both work, our hours are steady and our evenings and weekends are devoted to our pets. Please respond to Samilov@aol.com, or dwatson@com |

Gordon Setter: New Gordon Owner
|
Posted Date: 2000-07-25 15:24:00 By: Terri in Texas
Hi all, or shall I say "Howdy Yall". My family is the proud new owners of "Brody".
Brody was adopted from a Texas rescue. He is 2-3 years old and so smart.
My 6 year old son has Autism and we needed a companion dog for him.
My neighbor adopted a Gordon at Christmas for her 9 year old daughter. We fell in love with "Ollie"
and especially his manners and demeanor with children.
I also have a Rat Terrier named Dilby, although cautious of each other they are becoming tolerant.
My question to the group" are there other boards and web sites devoted to Gordons? Also, my dog has developed a skin
allergy and cough. It is being treated with a topical ointment, antibiotics and beneydryl. Is this common to Gordons?
As you might know Gordons are not plentiful in Texas. In my town of 50,000 there are only 3 that I know of.
Thanks.
Terri

Our Gordon is only 19 weeks old. She was the alpha of the litter and was extremely bossy to begin with. She did nip the children and barked at them alot. However she has now settled down beautifully and plays soccer and fetch with them . She runs along side their bikes and keeps a watchful eye on them in the yard. They all like to curl up together to watch tv. Yes they seem very compatable to me though it is early days. my children are 7 and 10. |
