We own a 23 month old male GSP who has been the light of our life. Unfortunately was just diagnosed with heart problems. Specifically, Aortic Stenosis with secondary significant left ventricular hypertrophy and mitral valve prolapse and dysplasia.
Our local vet made a limited diagnosis with the use of X-rays and suggested we see a doggie cardiologist. We went to University of Pennsylvania Veterinary Hospital on Thursday and the cardiology team there spent the day doing tests and confirmed what was initally suspected.
My question is, does this type of problem commonly present itself in GSP's? Docs said it is congenital.
We are heartbroken and would appreciate any input from anyone who may have gone through this with their dogs.
We had him on lasix and heart medication, but cardiologists think he will not benefit from meds at this time. They told us to take him home and make him a family pet. No more hunting or swimming for our little friend.
Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated. |
