I have a litter of 8 Shorthair PUPS out of a Son of Heidie's Mighty City Slicker-(Greatest Gsp living today) and Blue Earth Rex, (best producing son of Dixieland Rusty). The parents are the easiest dogs to train I've ever seen. EXTREMELY natural at POINTING and RETRIEVING.These are medium ranging dogs, great for the average hunter. Most of the dogs out of these litters have not had to be sent for training. Very, very solid on point, very young.
Pups born April 30,2003.

I adopted my GSP 4 years ago from a rescue. She is now 5 years old. We recently moved and found out that she is deathly afraid of thunder. We unfortunately have moved to a region that has thunderstorms and rain almost every afternoon. I got home yesterday and found that she had torn down a wall in my home trying to get out because of a thunderstorm. I was hoping someone might be able to help me with some suggestions on how I can either make her feel safe during these afternoon storms or correct the behavior. She is a well behved dog and has never had any big problems until now. |

German Shorthaired Pointer: Heart Problems In GSP
|
Posted Date: 2001-05-06 17:43:39 By: DawnStevens
We own a 23 month old male GSP who has been the light of our life. Unfortunately was just diagnosed with heart problems. Specifically, Aortic Stenosis with secondary significant left ventricular hypertrophy and mitral valve prolapse and dysplasia.
Our local vet made a limited diagnosis with the use of X-rays and suggested we see a doggie cardiologist. We went to University of Pennsylvania Veterinary Hospital on Thursday and the cardiology team there spent the day doing tests and confirmed what was initally suspected.
My question is, does this type of problem commonly present itself in GSP's? Docs said it is congenital.
We are heartbroken and would appreciate any input from anyone who may have gone through this with their dogs.
We had him on lasix and heart medication, but cardiologists think he will not benefit from meds at this time. They told us to take him home and make him a family pet. No more hunting or swimming for our little friend.
Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated. |

i have a 3yr old male gsp, that is starting to bark very mean at strangers, and i always hold him back so i don't know what he would really do. he is the sweetest dog that you could meet, my 2yr old son can do anything and everything to him he makes no fuss. when he was a puppy he never got socialalized right because he was a tinkler and we always stuck him in the back room, so he never got used to strangers, and now it's started to worry me, i was thinking about getting a muzzle so he can come out freely w/o me having to hold him but then people would get the wrong idea about him, i am taking him to vet in a couple of days but was wondering if anyone had any ideas. |

Well I show conformation with my girl and since the pups are now born, I want to put a JH on her. I just need to find a trainer to help me out. I really do not want to send her away with someone. I know that there has been a Dixieland Rusty and Luke. How do I go about making sure this is okay with out stealing someone elses names. I was told that I have to contact the first owners of Dixieland but I dont' know who they are or how to get a hold of them.

Whenever we are out for a day or a few hours or a few minutes, when we come back Frisco grabs something/anything to put in his mouth - holds his head up proudly, rolls his ears back and snorts. He sits on laps and gives lots of kisses. If you are a GSP lover, respond and tell us if your dog is this affectionate. |

Found the best cleaner for my kennel
I use a product called Pet Stop to clean my kennel and dog run out. I buy it at a wholesale price because I use it so often. I buy it for my friends and some people I know who also have kennels. It removes the waste and odor quickly. I spray it on and notice that what used to take several times of spraying has turned into just one time a day. I do bleach occasionally, but not half as much. Their site is epetstop.com

I believe that your veternarian should be able to answer all breeding questions. If not wouldnt they have refered you to someone that did?? There are so many backyard and puppy mill breeders that are continually disregarding the rules of this board. It just looks quite fishy when one posts in their first ad "They have good pedigrees" and then when its removed "What should we expect?" I think that the viewers besides myself are very apprehensive about some of these postings. And most importantly are very concerned with backyard breeders and puppy mill breeders placing their pups in homes that dump the animals after not being able to care for their dogs. We are all upset to see a GSP having to be destroyed due to irresponsibility from these breeders and owners. People think they need to breed their dogs for the wrong purposes. I receive responses from many backyard breeders not knowing anything about xraying the hips--and this is for both of the parents. What about checking the |

I have a 9 month male GSP who has developed a problem over the last two months.
The Problem:
Usually after exercise, he is sick an number of times which is not the contents of the digestive system but that of Bile/Foam. He can remain in this condition for a number of hours clearly not feeling that well. I have spent £1,000 so far, blood tests scans special diets, antibiotics. The vets, and specialist vetinary school.
Has anyone experienced this condition, if so any help would be appreciated. |

My husband has always hated my Collie Wolfshein. Well yesterday he finally had enough. Wolfshein has a potty habbit, and when Peter, my husband, came home from a long day at the plant yesterday, he had noticed some dog potty on his lazy boy that he always lays on. Well I knew Peter was mad, but not as mad as what happened next. Peter went into our bedroom, and got his 4-10 shotgun and with one quick blow to the stomach Wolfshein was no more. Now I feel angry towards my husband but he said if I told anyone I wouldnt ever get a dog again.
Sincerely,
Barbra

German Shorthaired Pointer: Found Dog Loose

I found a 16 week old GSP puppy running across a very busy country road - close to a major intersection with high speed traffic. She has clearly been kept outside - no knowledge of stairs, inside or potty training. The dilemma is we know where her "owner" lives now - they put one sign up down the street from where I found her. I feel that she would have been killed if I had not picked her up - she has pressure sores from laying in the homemade kennel all the time. I am struggling with taking her back to what I think is a less than desirable environment for her. Can someone give me some input ASAP.... |

Hello GSP lovers. I have just joined you with a ten month old GSP who is wonderfully sweet girl but has one really bad habit...she runs away when we are on walks for ten to fifeteen minutes at a time. I am hoping someone will have a suggestion for keeping her reigned in. She is starting on yard training for hunting - who, easy, bird wing games - so any hunting techniques for keeping her near would be great too. Thanks for your time and comments. Cheers, Kristin |
