You'll want to get chew toys and play time toys. Chew toys are ones that are safe enough for the dog to use while unattended in the crate. Kongs are great chew toys. Play time toys are those that your dog plays with only under close supervision (squeaky stuffed animals, rope, tennis balls, etc.).
GSDs have a high prey instinct. Our 4 month old's favorite toy is very cheap to make. Take a piece of rope and a tenis ball. Drill a hole through the ball and put it on the end of the rope. Shake it around in front of your dog and make it a fun game of tug-of-war. Remember, tug-of-war is okay as long as the dog does not become overly aggressive when playing.
As you know, GSDs have those wonderful razor sharp puppy teeth so make sure you have plenty of toys laying around to redirect the pup.
It also helps to have a toy box close by so the dog learns to put things away when you are done.
I hope this helps! Good luck! |
