We used to have a dog like that. She would do the exact same things. And if you don't want another dog than here is some more advice. LET HIM SLEEP IN YOUR ROOM.If he is lonely than that would probably work. We tried this with our dog and she was fine. Or have someone watch your dog while you're gone.

Our male English Springer Spaniel(whom we got from a very reputable breeder)is 1 year old.He was neutered at about 6 months old. Our problem is, that he has seperation anxiety.He has beeen like this since we've had him at 14 weeks old. We can't crate him,because he gets so upset,we are afraid he will hurt himself. He always has a bowel movement in the crate and makes a mess with it. He has bent the crate wires with his teeth,and the bottom tray is usually slid all the way out of the crate when we come home. We have given up on the crate and baracade him in the kitchen breakfast room area.No matter how much we puppy proof before we leave him,he always finds something to destroy while we are gone. We are at our wits end.Does anyone have any suggestions? Or has anyone tried medication for this problem,and how did it work?Please give us some help.

These guidelines apply whether you are buying a field bred or show bred puppy. Both sides of the breed share these common problems. English Springer Spaniels can have hereditary defects, so health screening in parents and knowledge of pedigrees are very important. You need to find someone that does a minimum of checking eyes, hips and PFK. I will not go into all these problems, as there are other sites that give detailed descriptions and consequences of these problems. You should be able to receive a certificate that the parents have no signs of these problems. These certificates are not covered by a "health certificate" from the local vet. They take expert evaluation and testing.

AKC can not revoke someone's ability to breed unless they have violated their rules such as registering mixed breeds. There is no law preventing puppies or dogs from being shipped. English Springer Spaniels are usually gentle dogs, but some can be a bit neurotic or aggressive. Just because you witnessed a dog taking over another over food does not mean the guy is puppy milling. If you suspect the dogs are being mistreated and not living in proper conditions, the first place you contact is your local animal control...then the sheriff's office. Only if your complaint is validated can you then take the person to court to try and prove your case. As long as the dogs are provided with adequate shelter, food, water and maintained in good health, you don't have a leg to stand on. AKC is nothing more than another type of registrant agency of which they will tell you this themselves. Just stating the facts, sir.

I know AKC standards are for the males to weigh 50lbs.What is the average of your males. Our adult male has lost some weight. Physically he is fine and healthy just very active.Just would like to know if it is something I should be concerned about or just let him be what he is???

How does one deal with cowlicks on a young dog to get ready for a show? even after towelling, he's one big cowlick and curl from neck to tail.

Hello Everyone,

I am hoping some of you may have some advice for me. I have a 17 week old ESS named Tessa. She is very friendly and affectionate, but I am having the standard "puppy problems" - nipping, jumping up, general ruckus etc. We are trying to provide a structured, consistent environment for her and I think those things are starting to get better. However, she is impossible when we try to teach her heel. She is too young for a choke collar so she ends up trying to pull our arms out when we go for walks. The only time she heels is when it is the end of the walk and she is too tired to yank and pull. We are currently enrolled in obedience classes and in most cases, walk her everyday. I have heard of a halter you can buy that fits around her chest and front legs and is supposed to be very effective in stopping dogs from pulling - have any of you used these? Do they work? Are there other things I can do to help her learn heel?

Hello. I had bought an ess a few days ago. I am going to pick the young pup up this weekend. The breeder sent me pictures and he is gorgious. He is a dark brown almost black and with few white markings on his body. He is going to be a show dog and i was wondering if anyone can help me with a name for him. Is it possible to file a complaint about a breeder, for puppy milling,

with AKC?

if so, how does one do this, and who should they contact?

I know of a breeder in Montana, who is pumping out a litter of ESS,

every few months and shipping them off to Washington to be sold,

saying there is no market for them in Montana.

Ive seen these pups interact with other dogs, and have witnessed them

at 6 wks, take an 8wk old boxer pup down, over food.

I would like to caution all the new comers to the breed of pure bred dogs that breeding is a serious business not to be taken lightly. I breed, raise, show, and train English Springers and it is a lot of work. If you think you are really interested in breeding your bitch begin by finding a sound stud. The stud should have been OFAd and CERFd the bitch should also have these things done. No reputable breeder would breed to a bitch that has not. If you need help finding a stud for your bitch or have any questions about breeding please feel free to e-mail me I am a vet tech and enjoy helping new comers to the breed.
