English Cockers & Mntn. Biking

I am looking at different dogs to buy and hoped I might get some advice from this site about English Cockers. I am looking for a dog that can run with me while I mountain bike. I don't know much about cockers and wonder if they can run with mountain bikers for 15 to 20 miles. I know they are fast and have heard that they have stamina, but in your opinion could a cocker make this kind of run -- assuming of course lots of water, enough food, rest, etc. Other than that, I think cockers are great dogs and would be perfect for the kind of dog I am looking for. My other top choice is a springer spaniel. On another note, I had originally ruled out cockers, but have seen articles about mountain biking with dogs that said almost any dog can do well. One article talked about a Jack Russell that never fell behind, even on long rides. I figured if a Jack Russell can do it, an english cocker could as well. Any thoughts? Thanks.
