I would like to find a good pet quality black and rust female Doberman pup. I am not looking for anything from the Z list or in other words that has any albino bloodline. AKC has all albino's listed so a person cannot be fooled. I live in Louisiana and would like to find one at a good price that is well bred. Also not looking for King or Warlock Dobes. I want a true Doberman. She will be a house dog, I will have her spayed and as I'm a dog groomer she will go to work with me to be socialized. So if you know of anyone with reasonable prices and parent's that a person can look at please let me know. |

Doberman Pinscher: rabies in dogs
|
Posted Date: 2003-04-10 04:06:28 By: nayakutty
Dear friend
I have a genuine doubt about rabies. I would like to know whether the dog, which has vaccinated antirabby, is safe from rabies. Some of the doctors told me we have to vaccinate again if the dog is bitten by a rabid animal. If it is so what is the use of antirabby vaccine.
Is the rabies is originated from the body of dogs itself, without contact of rabid animal, bats, or raccoons.
Some people say if vaccinated a dog antirabby, it will not show the symptoms of rabies though its affected rabies. Is it true?
Please reply

Doberman Pinscher: excessive licking
|
Posted Date: 2003-03-28 08:23:18 By: axelsmom
Hi all, just found this site while looking for advice for my dobie's problem. A little history first; I am guilty of purchasing my dobie from a byb. I mistakenly bought first, educated myself later. That being said, I love my dog very much, he just doesn't have the temperment I expected. He is a very timid and nervous dog. I realize this is most likely due to irresponsible breeding. He is sweet natured though, just a 65lb baby. The problem I would like some help with is his grooming/licking habits. He licks the couch all day. At night when we go to bed, he will groom himself for at least 30 min. then start licking the comforter. Anyone have any advice how to curtail this? |

I am going to start the search for a new one for my new Dobie but would like to know what kinds of questions to ask..such as how many croppings they have done and what breeds? I am doing a project for school on dog intelligence, and thought it would be a good idea to include results form a test of my own, and to see if my results of different breed intelligence match what the experts say. It is a 70 question multiple choice test, and I was wondering if anyone would not mind taking a few minuets and taking the test about their dogs. Just emal me at spoonz28@hotmail.com and I would be glad to give you the test.
Thanks,

Doberman Pinscher: The evil puppy teeth
(2 Responses)

Posted Date: 2002-12-21 08:56:56 By: black9
OK, I got this from my vet a few years back and it works wonders. If you have a Doberman puppy, chances are you have an idea of how much it hurts when they clamp down on you when you play with them, or when they decide to play with you. Those evil puppy teeth, like needles. This is an easy way to train your dog and it works wonders because the Doberman is such a smart breed even as a puppy. The vet told me to put your hand in their mouth and gently hold their jaw back. Not to hurt them, but to give them the idea that biting you isn't very fun. You hold back just enough so they can't really bite you. You do it a few times and tell them no and they usually stop chewing on you and your family members and go find a toy to abuse in such ways. Once they figure out something isn't fun to do they move on to other things. |

Doberman Pinscher: Leaving your Dobe at home

Crating your Doberman is a sure way to keep him safe while you are away. Dobermans are very active dogs and spending 8 hours in the crate is a long time. I wouldn't suggest it. This isn't very fair at all but you gotta do what you gotta do to keep your best friend safe. Make sure your dog has rawhide chewies to chew on and a large enough crate to be very comfortable in. I've in the past bought large wire portable fences (you can get them from Petsmart, or Petco) and I've set them up in the kitchen. I covered the entire pen with paper and put my Dobe's dog bed inside the pen. Lots of toys and chews to keep him occupied. He did really well and never jumped out. If you are going to take this route I'd put a top on the pen so that your dog wouldn't jump out. This idea works great if you are getting a puppy because they adapt to their pen and usually won't jump out by the time they are old enough to do so. Good luck! |
Doberman Pinscher: Thinking about getting a Dober

Hello there. I'm in the market for a new dog and a Dobermann is one of the breeds that I have shortlisted. I've had dogs before and am confident that I can handle the training aspects of owning a Dobermann and would also have no problem giving the dog a daily walk. My only concern is that as I'm single and work 9-5, I'll be leaving the dog alone for 8-10 hours every week day. So my question to you guys is whether or not you think this is fair, obviously there are a great many dogs that are home alone during the week, and some handle this better than others. Is a Dobermann likely to suffer from separation anxiety and become bored and destructive?
Thanks in advance

Doberman Pinscher: Looking for a red female

Posted Date: 2002-10-18 12:56:43 By: Lizanne
To whom it may concern, I have recently lost my female red Doberman to a large swarm of yellow jackets. She was only 5 years old. I find it very difficult to accept such a loss. Our family is looking for another red Doberman puppy. We are able to work with this little one on a daily basis. I work at home and husband is retired. So we are both here pretty much all the time. We are looking for a Doberman with a sweet disposition, and a family line of being a great family member. It will be impossible to have the same dog, but I am sure as years go by, the newest member to our family will be loved just as much as our Mercedes was. We would like to take this weekend to start looking. I'd really like to find some puppies that were born on this past Saturday, October 12.2002. Mercedes died just one day before her birthday, which was October 16.
Sincerely,
Lisa Yates

I will be more than happy to refer anyone to reputable breeders with outstanding quality puppies such as ours were.
Thank you for choosing our kennel in the past years of business. we are ONLY breeding the Miniature Pinscher as of JUNE 2002. |

i have a male dobe who is absolutely beautiful. well hos ears dod not take. our vet said its totally up to him now. my dobes ears are very thin. theres like no cartlidge at all to them. our females ears are thick and perfectly erect. i have treid the "quick brace" from house of hoytt's dobermans, but no luck. he can put one up now and then, but t eventually flops. what can i do? i put him through the surgery and really want them to stand. he looks so handsome with them up. is the vet right? is it all up to him now or is it the way the vet cut them? as i said, his ears are very thin, unlike our females. will they ever stand? we got his ears done at 11 or 12 weeks. thank you and all input is appreciated. |

Is this a good choice since its a feed all food and they have no puppy food?

I have a 10 month old male, who is very sweet and gentle.
The children next door tease him, by either standing a foot away from the fence or raking sticks along the fence.
He stands his hair up on his back and lunges at the fence barking.I am afraid he may try to bite them if this continues. I have asked the children and their mother to stay away from the fence and stop teasing him.Others walk along the fence and he does not react to them.I don't feel I should have to continue making sure the neighbors are not out, before I let him outside.Any suggestions would be much appreciated. |

Hello, My name is Kay and this is the first visit to this board. I hope you don't mind me posting. I have a few questions I hope someone will be able to answer. To make a very long story short I think I have been swindled by a breeder passing off a Rottie for Dobbie or possible rottie/dobbie mix. Here is my questions. First off does anyone have any pictures of thier dobbies at appox 2 - 3 mos of age they would like to share. Also, I am trying to find out what type of weight dobbie puppies are at appox 8 weeks and 12 weeks of age. The dog I have was 5.5 at 7 1/2 weeks and 12/4 at 12 1/2 weeks .... much too small to be a true rotie. Also, the puppy I have is getting very long legged, lean and has a much longer nose them any rottie puppies I have ever seen. Please e-mail me with your replys @ ParkKay1@aol.com Thanks in advance for all you help. |

Would they be any good Hunting? I have hunted coyotes in the past with greyhounds, plenty of speed but they get beat up pretty good in the process, takes awhile for my APBTs to get there and take over. I have read some things on Dobermans hunting but found no real answers. It would also be nice to have a protector around to keep things in order when Im gone, if anyone knows how a dobe would preform as a coyote hunter, enough speed and stamina? Im sure the strenght would be there but could they catch a coyote that has a 30 to 40 yard headstart with a chase lasting a few miles sometimes? |

I have a 7 month female doberman puppy. She is an excellent pup. Championship bloodlines from her sire and dame. Beautiful in every way. Her ears were cut by the breeders veterinarien and we did not get Sheba until she was 2.5 months old. We have taped her ears now for 5 months the hair is even gone in some places, They will sometimes stand for a day or just one will stand. After the second day they are flopped back over again. What do we need to do. The lady we bought from said to keep taping. But we had a doberman before and friends that have dobermans and none of them remember the ears not standing up yet. We feed her Eukanuba and sometimes we mix a little gravy or cooked hamburger with it. Any help would be appreciated, she is a good dog otherwise. |

there is two kennels in maine that are breeding sick dogs, they are currantly under investigation with animal welfare and will be closed down as of next week, they say that they are repritable but i think not. these two have sold sick pups and well look at their web sites and see for your self, they are both on breedersweb, they both claim to have great pups but one kennel has no pictures and the other kennel, well if thats a doberman then im a lepricahn. i cant say names because its slander but you decide for yourself and see what i mean. there is only 3 kennels in maine that are great and they are all affiliated with each other and do not stand puppy mills and bybs i purchased a puppy from spruce valley kennels and boy what a wonderful, healthy dog. she is now a little over 7 months and i had her trained in a flash!! shes great with other animals and wonderful with children. so go check out the breeders board for dobermans and you tell me what you think, ill be looking for your reply |

I have a beautiful female Dobe who caught "Swimmers Itch" this summer in the lake we live near. She now has spots where the hair fell out from the rash -- on her chest, front legs, neck and on her back. I have tried meds from our vet -- very pricey. I also give her medicated baths and vitamins, wheat germ oil (vitamin e) and soy oil in her dinner. I am heartbroken because her coat was so gorgeous before. Shes had it for 4 weeks now. Some clearing is evident but any advice to speed the healing process would be appreciated. |
