My cocker is 8 years old. She has always been a sweet dog and never snapped at anyone. We just moved and they are now hooked on tie outs in the yard. Whenever children approach her she snaps at them. Also, the past few months she and our other dog (a mix breed) have been growling and snapping at each other. The seems to be some jealousy also. Unfortunately, over the past few years they were living in a dog pen and received little attention. I believe this may be why they are acting out. We are trying to spend more time with them but I am extremely concerned about the biting and snapping at children or strangers. I guess I'm just wondering if there's any hope that my cocker will go back to being a sweet, friendly dog. Does anyone have any advice or information that may help? I'm afraid if she doesn't change we'll have to get rid of her.

We bought a ACS puppy 18 hrs ago and she if you walk towards her quickly ten feet away from her, she will crouch down curled up and yelp helplessly! She is only 16 wks old. Will she grow out of this w/ lots of love or is this a lifetime behavior. The breeder had about 20+ dogs running her over and chasing her away when we went to pick one out. I felt so bad for her! What do you think? Do I need to take her back and pick another one?

My two cockers gomer and daisy had 7 little ones on april 25th, sadly one passed away a couple days later, they have 2 black males,1 buff male,1white and fawn male,1 buff female and 1 chocolate fem living... the chocolate will remain with me,at least for a little while and one of the black males is already spoken for as well. Hi-my 13 month old Cocker Spaniel is going through heat for the first time. She has been bleeding pretty heavily for 11 days now, and I'm just wondering if this is normal and how much longer we can expect her to do this. Thanks!

I'm having what looks like a potential problem with my 8-year old cocker spaniel - Max. We went away for the weekend and left Max at our house with some friends who stayed with him for the entire two days. When our guests arrived Max warmly greeted them and then about 10 minutes later piddled on the floor. Very unusal since he has a bladder of steel and has never suffered from the common cocker piddle problem. I chalked it up to him having a full bladder and let him out to finish his business. When we got home tonight he was excited to see us and then settled down to a nap within a few minutes. About an hour after we were home he wanted to go out so we let him and when he came back in he promptly piddled all over (and I mean all over) the living room floor! He started at one side of our area rug and just walked and peed until he got to the other end! It was so sutble that I didn't even notice until he stopped and I heard him going. He was scolded and put outside again while we cleaned up. My husband thinks he must have a bladder infection as he's never behaved like this but I'm inclined to think he's reacting to us being gone, although he's never done this before. We travel rather frequently so he's not unaccustomed to being with friends and he's never, ever gone to the bathroom in the house. The only other time I experienced anything like this is the very first time I went on a trip after I got him - he pooped on the couch! Savage! :-) That's why I think it's spite....but anyone had any experience with bladder infections? He's currently taking an antibiotic for hot spots, could that cause a continance problem? Any suggestions appreciated - thanks!

My husband and I are considering adopting a Cocker Spaniel from a shelter. We have an elderly Border Collie and two children ages 12 and 3. I need help, I just rescued 2 females and 1 male. The lady lost her home and could not take care of the spaniels. The male and 1 of the females have some type of problem with 1 of each of their eyes. It appears to me like cold in the spaniels eye, like maybe an infection. I have called the vet and I am waiting to here back for an appointment but I was hoping to get some input from spaniel owners

I have a beautiful chocolate female available to a good home. She is 15 months old, spayed, has her shots and is housebroken. She is afraid of small children and is losing her home because of this. She has a good temperment and shows no agrresion towards the children, but shakes when around them. Please e-mail me privatly.

Your silver (a light choc factored buff I am assuming), can be bred to choc or choc factored black. Chocolate always have self colored (liver eyerims and noses and lighter eyes). Not sure what you are wanting to breed to...but I can say that if you want to produce nice buffs with dark points don't use him if he has liver points. I breed chocolate to chocolate occasionally but tend to infuse choc factored black into the choc line so to avoid cottoney coats and light points.Let me recommend this book The American Cocker Spaniel, Dr Alvin Grossman. gets into all possible color combos in detail.
