getting a puppy

i currently have a med size mutt that i adopted from the pound about a year and a half ago. since our older dog died about 6 mothns ago my dog seems depressed so i thought i would get a chihuahua to keep him company. i was wondering if they would most likely get along? i currently live in an apartment so i thought a chihuahua would be the perfect dog. thanks
