AB's - GREAT tempermet?

I am looking for a good companion/guard dog. I want one that has a GREAT temperment (we live around a lot of kids and dogs, but have none ourselves). Is the American Bulldog the right breed? Thanks!

I have two American Bulldogs. One female and one male. They both are very good with Children! I have two kids of my own and I also run a home daycare. My ABs are always playing with the kids. My female likes to play fetch and loves rocks while my male likes to play with the water hose and watch TV. They both are very friendly to people and other dogs, but if you are a stranger going in to my back yard with out us, or you try to brake in to our house at night they will attack! I did not do anything to train them for this. This is just in their nature to portect their family. My Female American Bulldog just had puppies. They will be ready to go the end of August. Barbi, ABs are great dogs. I have been into the breed for about 5 yrs now. I have shown trained bred ABs. I have a son of my own and other pets as well and they are good w/ all. I have had other dogs and I would never change since I got into this breed.
