Catahoulas are a dominant breed by nature,so YOU must always be in control! They are also very territorial, and do not always descriminate between friend or foe, so I do not advise letting a Catahoula-or any dog for that matter, run free without supervision. Catahoulas can become overly-protective of children; I have had to take back a young dog which began attacking the mother when she tried to discipline her toddler, because she had allowed the dog to become the dominant member of the household. They are not "bird dogs", and were bred to hunt four-legged game, especially of the more dangerous variety, but they will stalk and kill wild birds and eat them. I have bred these dogs for many years, so feel free to email me with questions about them. |
