hair loss

My four year old female has lost much of the hair around her eyes . Also the color of the hair that grew in is considerably lighter than the dark brown that was there before. My vet checked her for thyroidism and asked me about changes in shampoo, or cleaners we used in our home. If anyone know's of a possible reason I'd love to know!! Thanks, Linda
