Well gee.. If you dont give the buyer a stud cert and a pedigree they cant register the pup with the JRTCA once the dog is a year old. They can spay/neuter and record the dog, thats it!

Thats the biggest problem with the AKC,litter registrations.I know you can use the limited reg forms etc but I like the CAs health form much better.Working for a vet you wouldnt believe some of the stuff we see.Health problems out the wazoo that could easily be avoided if the AKC waited until the dogs were a year old and had a health exam,pics etc.They wouldnt totally eliminate health problems but it sure would help!You have to admit that unethical,backyard breeders and puppy mills have really done alot of damage to most of the AKC breeds.The Jack has been really fortunate to be protected over the years from health problems.I know we have several within the breed but compared to other breeds theyre pretty healthy dogs.

I dont think registries ruin breeds, bad breeders do. Puppymills and BYBs go for the popular breed of the moment. Most of the JRTs in our local ad bulletin are not reg anywhere, and I counted 7 ads in the last edition. Ive talked to a couple of these ppl before AKC accepted the breed and they got by with selling them unreg by telling ppl who didnt know any better that JRTs couldnt be AKC reg therefore their pups werent reg. They didnt go on to explain that they could be reg with JRTCA if they had a pedigree, were certified healthy, and met the standard at a year of age, either they themselves didnt know or they didnt have pedigrees and their dogs didnt meet the standard. I think the AKC did accept the JR because its the popular dog of the moment, but where Im located its very rare to see an AKC JRT, most are CKC or not reg at all.Most BYBs and puppymills wouldnt put the effort and money into AKC reg them.

Im not putting either registry down , I am just saying that most of the BYBs
