can anyone help me with ideas on making my eskie more friendly? he is a one year old mail who tries to bite anyone not living in my home. i would like to be able to take him for grooming and other activities away from home but he barks and growls at everyone. anyone with any ideas please let me know.

Hello. I have a couple of questions. How old was the dog when you got him? What breeder did you get him from? Did you get him from a pet store? Does he know sit and stay commands? The reason I ask is I am an American Eskimo breeder and I have never had any problems with my puppies or adult dogs. I will my best to help you. Some times the dog can be aggressive due to poor breeding. Also if the puppy was left alone for long periods of time he may doing it to get attention. Please let me know of the above questions. A truly aggressive wellbred eskie are very unusual, and in most cases can be traced to one of several family situations. Some eskies will bite out of fear and the best way to deal with the problem is to gradually introduce him/her to that situation. Dont force the dog to be petted by the people who come into your home. It could cause the dog to bite. If the dog was isolated before you got him that could cause aggression. How old was the dog when you got him? Is someone home with the dog? I got my eskie from a breeder and she was 9 weeks old. She is now 4 months old. Unfortunately my husband and I work so she is alone during the day. She seemed to have been socialized really well from birth and she came from a large litter so she had lots of playmates. I wouldnt really call it agressive but it seems like she thinks that my husband and I are better than her chew bones. For example, when I get home after work and I pick her up to say hello she wants to nibble on me. Or if Im laying on the couch watching TV she wants to chew on my hair, or my fingers or what every is within range. Its almost like this is her way of saying hello or her way of playing. There are also times when Im correcting her and I point my finger at her and tell her "No" that she will lunge at my finger and try an bite it. This normally happens after she has been playing and is really excited. She will also lunge at you if she is overly excited and try and bite what ever she can get a hold of.

Eskies are very welcoming dogs, and at the same time very interesting. My opinion is that they look like " living-room" dogs, and their look is a total killer, but on the other hand it is good to remember that they are part of the nordic breed. With this observation I mean that they will take the role of the dominant any chance they have... My dog rules are as follow:
