Shiba Inu: SNOTTY BREEDERS! UGGGH
|
Posted Date: 2003-10-15 12:52:34 By: Tazzzzy
I sent a simple e-mail to a breeder reqesting information on the POSSIBILITY of stud service, or breeding...and she was SO SNOTTY. She knows nothing about my Shiba OR his bloodlines, yet she tells me to get him Fixed, and have him be a pet only. He's got a bloodline that is UNBELEIVEABLE! He's the PICTURE of a perfect red Shiba! His Great Grandsire and Great Granddam are in the SHIBAS book by Richard Tomita. I'm just so TICKED! Anyone else have to deal with SNOTTY breeders? I mean is it so hard to TALK to people? To answer questions? I'd go get another from the breeder i got MY Shiba from but shes since retired from breeding Shibas. Spanish Water Dogs are now her passion.
Any imput would be helpful. Should I expect this from every breeder I contact? or is she the EXCEPTION rather than the rule. GOOD LORD I HOPE she's the exception! |
Shiba Inu: Question about a rescue shiba?
|
Posted Date: 2003-09-08 12:42:55 By: pkirkhart
Hi - we are looking to adopt a rescue shiba (male) from our local shelter. The only problem is that he exhibits strange behavior - his penis is almost always out - is this normal? He is approx. a year old and was just neutered last week. I have had a few male dogs in my childhood but this was not an issue. Any thoughts or experiences with this issue. I have been told that it takes up to 3 months for him to loose the hormones from the neutering - so will this behavior go away with the hormones? Thanks. |

I have a 1-1/2 yr. old female that is interested in children. She approaches them with her tail wagging and tongue hanging out ready to lick. I also have a 2 yr. old male that is the exact opposite. He keeps a 5 ft. distance most times and growls and runs away when they make quick movements or loud noises. In any case, they should be watched with children all the time. Good luck! |

Our 5 month old male shiba is very frightened of noises...any noises around the house. He spends most of the time with his tale hanging down and running away. He dislikes going for walks and will only go within the same block and to a certain point then pulls like heck to go back. He is not at all timid with people or other dogs..just noises. Any suggestions on helping him get over this. Also how do we get him to like going for a walk. Our last Shiba was Mr. Macho so we find this guy very hard to deal with. |

I have a male 5 month old shiba inu. My boyfriend and I are thinking about showing and possibly breeding our puppy when he is mature. We are also considering buying our own female to breed him with. Is this smart? And should we consider buying a female now while he is still young? I have so many questions so if there is anyone with lots of experience who could answer some of my questions please contact me and I will ask away! I can be reached at mmwalter@columbus.rr.com. My two grandsons(1yr and 5yrs) came for a visit. My female shiba was good with the toddler but would go after the 5yr old aggressively. The 5yr old is afraid of dogs but tried very hard to make friends with her. Sometimes my shiba wouldn't pay any attention to Robbie but if he ran over to sit on the sofa, etc. Cinnamon would come after him. Any ideas on what could be causing this reaction. Robbie has never been mean to her. |

Max is a smart, feisty and playful dog. However, he ranks members of my family! He will playfully nip when disturbed and chase my daughters away when he is eating something good. Obviously I know they are dominant dogs & dog training was a waste. Is this the norm for this breed? Also, I feed him human food (beef, chicken...) Is this OK? Max is 15 months. |

We have a five year old Shiba and within the last six months, she has had numerous seemingly inhalant allergic reactions in the facial area. Her eyes are goopy and swollen and her muzzle is swollen and losing hair. She has been treated with steroids, which helps but then it comes back. She has been treated with antibiotics and anti-fungal medications, as well as special shampoo for the rash on her stomach. We have cut out all medicines to see if she has an allergy to those, but she does not appear to. Now we are looking at a special diet to see if that helps. The vet is thinking she may have an auto-immune disorder but is recommending a trip to a specialist in dermatology to rule out allergies. We have had extensive bloodwork done and she is on phenobarb for seizures. Anyone had similar problems or have any ideas? |

Hello! I am considering getting a shiba inu. I live in Ohio and will be moving into an apartment next year and would like a dog for companionship. I like the personality and size of the shiba and think that one would be a great dog for me. I will be moving into my apartment in may, and would like to get a dog around that time or shortly after. I have read that shibas would be suitable for apartments, is this true? Would barking be a major problem? How much would I expect to pay for a shiba puppy? (I would prefer a pet quality male dog btw) If anyone knows of a good breeder, or of an older dog who needs a good, loving home, or has any advice/info that would help me out, please email me at Nikskavik444@yahoo.com I am willing to travel a small distance if necessary. |

We have a 1 yr old shiba inu & recently began to notice a worsening behavior in the first 10- 60 minutes after eating, she got to trembling running, & hiding for a few hours. After several days & trying different brands, etc. we have decided it is a strange reaction to chicken. She is fine with all other meats. Just wondered if any other shiba inu owners have had this problem? |

Words can not explain the pain I feel for having to give up my 3 year old tan Shiba Inu. I will be moving into a small place and they don't take dogs. Magoo (my dog) deserves to be with a family and a yard. I owe her that. We adopted Magoo when she was 6 months. She is very shy. I have spoiled her through the years, I always felt her pervious owners were not nice to her. This is breaking my heart, but I am doing it for her. If anyone knows how I can find a loving home for Magoo, I would appreciate it. Thank you. |

Shiba Inu: Need a new loving home
|

Hello, We have a 6 year old female spayed red sesame shiba inu and we need to find her a new loving home. Her name is Hallelujah (Hallie for short)and she loves people, even tries to "shake" your wrist in a greeting, loves to go on walks, and loves to do tricks. The only problem is that she does not like small children and we just had a baby. The vet said she is a great dog, but could be a problem with the baby when the baby starts toddling around. This is sad because Hallie is considered as our "daughter" in the family. If you are interested or know of someone looking for a great companion already trained, please let me know. Also, note- as documented by other comments on the message board- Hallie likes to be king of the hill and does not mix well with other dogs.
Thanks!

I have a 5 year old female and male Shiba. The last couple of winter seasons my male has had problems with his paws. Specifically he has continually licked at them until they have become red (bloody) and tender. We are not certain of the cause but are wondering that if the salt and sand used on the streets during Winter are the cause. Any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated.

We have a 3 year old Shiba that has a lot of problems with other dogs, especially when shes on a leash! The problem didnt start until she was almost a year old. We thought we had done all of the socializing we could possibly do, every evening out on the common with many other dogs until it just got too embarrassing to bring such a bully! We have heard varying stories from behaviorists as to the degree of "cure" that can be obtained from training sessions. She is absolutely an angel with all humans! Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

He will be updated on all shots, crate trained, mostly leashed trained but doesnt like large male dogs. His ideal situation would be an only dog or with one other non aggressive dog. If you could help us find him a home I would greatly appreciate it! Email me for photos or more info. |

We want to install a wireless fence for our Shiba Inu dog as we do not want to chase after her every time she gets loose. We live in a area that the houses are close so we do not have a lot of yard and would rather use a wireless fence. Can the Shiba Inu be trained to stay inside the fence or are they too quick and will run right through the boundaries of the fence? We would rather not install a regular wire fence but this might be our only option. Any information or opinions is appreciated. Thanks

We have a male 1-1/2 year old Shiba who was given to us with no information, including AKC registration or immunization records. I need to find the breeder in the Akron-Cleveland area who sold the pup to the original owner. I would like to be able to get his papers.

Shiba Inu: aggressive male-HELP
|
Posted Date: 2000-04-20 14:29:00 By: rebecca
I have a beautiful, red neutered male, Bushido, who is 5 years old. We also have his sister, Baiki, a white shiba.
From the beginning Bushido has been aggressive. We did puppy kindergarten I and II, he attacked a sheltie several
times. He has bitten me when I have broken up fights. We did Schutzhound training (probably a big mistake) and
regular dog obedience--he attacked a Rotwieller and we were told to leave.. Weve even seen an animal behavioralist
in Philly. She says he is dog aggressive and dominance aggressive. Weve done some behavior modification
and had him on anti-anxiety drugs. I never really noticed a difference. Lately he has escaped our yard with his
sister, and terrorized the neighborhood. He attacked a small, white dog and a golden retriever. He chased
(because she ran) one of our neighbors. I feel it is only a matter of time before he bites someone or kills
someones pet. I have a two yo son and 12 week old daughter and cant handle the str |
