That question could be hard to answer, because some people say the early history of the Collie somewhat in dout, because apperently the dog was so common that few writers ever remarked about it. Collies are considered to be one of the oldest breeds on the British Isles.
Some claim that the Collies ancestors were brought to the British Isles by Roman conquerors in the middle of the first century, A.D. and the Stone Age nomads also brought dogs with them to what is now Southern England.
I really like to read about Collie breed developement, and their history, I find it very interesting. Here is a web site with, what some say, very well could be the Collies family tree. Hard to say if this is accurate or not, Take a look if you like though.
