Collie in general are excellent dogs to have around kids, however ANY dog should always be supervised around children, especially small ones, as you know how kids can be... Curiousity can lead to a disaster if the kids are poking pencils up the dogs nose (been there, seen that), or running the G.I.Joe Tank over the dogs tail (seen this on too). By and large collies are very tolerant of childern and their antics, however any dog can get fed up with constant torment.
If you have very tiny children, they are not going to really appreciate a dog until they are about 5-6 years old. On older dog may be easier to intragrate into your schedule and the family if you do have small children that need a lot of care themselves.
Smooth collies DO shed and a moderate amount. This is a double coated breed and the fur is about 1 to 1 and a half inches long on the rough. Its a lot less work than their rough brothers, but if youre looking to keep hair out of the house, youre probably goi |
