Boston Info Please

I have been looking into getting a BT for some time now, what I am trying to find out are some of the good and Bad trates of the breed everything I have read has made them seem like the perfect dog to own, I have always loved the way they look and now that I am looking to get a dog I want to make the right desision, So is there a negitive side to owning a BT? do the slobber alot? or shed excessivly? do they tend to be barkers or nippers? My husban and I are both in our30s and have 11 and 12 year old girls. anyone who can help us prepare I would aprecieate it greatly Thank YOu.=+)

Hi, I have two Bostons & two kids ages 7 & 9. I have found Bostons to be wonderful around children, and two months ago Child magazine listed the Boston as the #1 breed to be around children. The Boston doesn't drool, and sheds very little. The only drawback I would say is that they snore & snork - ALOT! And due to the shortened muzzle they have a tendency to be gassy, yes, that means doggy farts! They also don't do well on long hikes or jogging - they get overheated and out of breath. If you are a super sporty family & want to include your dogs in outdoor activities then the Boston would not be a good match, they are little couch potatoes. Despite all this, the Boston is MY favorite breed. I find them to be the most trusting, trustworthy & loveable little lumps. I hope it helps! Robyn

I breed Boston Terriers.Bostons are not always couch potatoes.Some can be very active.Also being a terrier you do need to train and discipline.They are great with most every person.Some are dog aggressive.Some are more a one person dog.Each have different personalities and you can help develope this when you get your pup.

okay well al I hafta say about Bostons are that they are the best breed! Atleast for me they are. Okay... Bostons, They do snore and fart. My Boston right now in fact is farting, and my Boston before her farted alot too ;), and they have difficulty in hot weather because of their short muzzle they cannot pant well enough to get rid of the excess heat as fast long muzzled breeds. They cannot tolerate hot weather or cold weather. You'll need a sweater for them in winter. cats are an especial danger to them. Because of their large eyes they can be scratched there. erm I know you aren't thinking about breeding but they have difficulty free whelping, many need C-sections. Mine are from a line of free whelpers for 4 generations and they are designed for it. Bostons also have delicate diets. But the pros of the breed outnumber the cons greatly. My Boston lives with me (13 yrs old), my sister(5), my lil bro(3). when you get a Boston you have to check out it's parent's and if possible even grandparents, their temperment should be active, and cheerful but not growling or nipping. But of course their is the possibility that there was a happy go lucky uncle along the line. Well I'm kinda getting bored of this so I'llbe closing now... if you wanna know more just contact me.
