I am at my wits end, Coullette is chewing her tail open. I have had her to the vets twice and she is on atibotics and steroids to stop the itching, it is not working. They put 2 differet collars on her, a smaller one then a larger one. She can hardly move, and they told me not to take it off. 24/7. She can still get her tail. it is healing, but she keeps chewing it open. I tried to cover it, but he gets the bandage off. She got stress out when my mother came to vist with her two dogs and tore all the hair out of the base to half way up her tail. I have been treating this for 2 weeks now...I want my baby back to normal. Can you suggest anything I may have missed. This is a spoiled doggie.

Does anyone know of a reputable Bichon breeder in Central New York?

As you may or may not know all Pet shop dogs come from Puppy Mills. Please help stop the puppy mills never purchase anything from a pet store that sells dogs. These dogs come from horrible place. Also dogs sold in new papers, pet publications and a lot of places on the internet we find brokers and backyard breeders. Brokers buy from the puppy mills and they sell them out of their homes. Backyard breeders just sell poor quality dogs. AKC registration is not an indication of quality only a registry. Repuable breeders breed champions. The sire and dam of the puppies are champions. Champions lines are meaningless. Reputable breeders also test for the breeds big genetic problems. The bichon is the #1 breed for juvinile cataracts, they can have hip dyplasia, patella laxation problems. So reputable breeders besides breedign champions have the CERF certifiction done annually on the dogs till they are 8 yrs old and they are breeding multi-generation clear dogs. For the hips and patellas they have the OFA certifciation. All reputalble breeder have these certificiaton. You find reputable breeders thought the AKC breed clubs. Just go to the AKC website: http://akc.org and look for breeders referral. For the Bichon its the Bichon Frise Club of America website: http://www.bichon.org Reptuable breeders to not always have puppies available its takes 6 months to 1 year to get a bichon puppy form a reptuable breeder. This is my advice to find a puppy that looks like a bichon and dogs not have all the problems associated with getting them from pet shop / puppy mills & backyard breeders.

i my previous post i asked about being able to tell the puppys age my question now is this puppy is mostly tan with some white(remember its a cross between a bichon and a shih tzu), can the tan color change to white. The mom is black and the dad of course is white

is there anyway of telling how old a puppy is. I saw a puppy who was supposed to be 1 month old, but i beleive she was only 2 weeks old. its a mix of a bichon and a shih zu. she had her eyes open was doing the gi joe crawl(meaning was not walking on on 4's) and i saw her teeth. its a long story but the breeder(who was highly reccomended to me) orginally told me the liter wasnt due till begginning of june now tells me they were born mid may, but she also tells me the puppy needs to be picked up before july 30th as she is going on vacation, and i will have to give her xtra money to board them, does something sound fishy!(I cant pick up the puppy till begining of august) the puppy looked healthy and was gorgeous!

Our little man..15 months old has recently developed an usual pattern.......hope you can help.. Mazel is not a good eater normally...he takes a piece of food..walks away from the bowl and eats and then comes back for another bite until all is consumed he wighs..9 pounds. Now..hell eat out of the bowl..and then he comes back to the bowl and starts barking at it...as he lays on the floor and tail wagging. If my wife takes some of the food out of the bowl and puts it on the floor..hell stop barking at the bowl and will eat it. We cant spoil him like this can you please help us..thank you..Stan and Marilyn Garfin..(or if we feed him out of the hand hell eat..why has this started?

We are blessed with a healthy and loveable 6 mt. old Bichon. I was told there is a book out showing step by step grooming for the Bichon. Here in Arkansas it is imposable to find someone to groom our baby so we will learn or he will be cut like a Poodle, uke. Please help...
