Bernese Mountain Dog: Health Problems

Help!! I have a 9 month old male Berner who has developed "premature bilateral closure of the growth Plate" in both front legs. Has anyone ever heard of this? I am told it is most likely genetic. If anyone has ever heard of this, I'd appreciate more information. I meet with the surgeon tomorrow evening to go over my options. Thanks
