Why question motives over asking for an intact dog? My humble opinion is that breeders push fixing because of money and potential competition. Im against it because even though I have no intention of breeding my Affenpinscher, it seems like a senseless form of mutilation. My biggest fear is that itll change his personality. That may be an unfounded fear, but Im just sharing my concerns. Breeders and vets talk about health. Fine, my email address is below, send me some non bias study. I really do want whats best for my dog, and if itll give him a better life, then Im for it. I often wonder, if its so healthy for the dog, why arent all those champion show dogs fixed. Dont you care about their welfare? Could the answer be MONEY?

Bill,
I guess Im not really clear on your position regarding spaying and neutering of companion animals. Since you are asking, let me first let you know why we do not fix show dogs.
The purpose of dog shows, since their inception, has been to judge and evaluate ones breeding stock. We, as exhibitors, are supposed to follow a set standard for each breed in our animal husbandry endeavors. That standard is a "blue-print", if you will, and is a guideline for breeders to follow in producing dogs of specific breeds. Most breeds (not all) were bred to do a certain task, and much of how they are "built" relates to that task. Dog shows are an avenue where we, as exhibitors, pay an entry fee to have our dogs judged by these guidelines; and while there is some room for leeway and interpretation, for the most part, the judges follow the breed standards in selecting the winners of the day they see them. Therefore, it goes against purpose to fix show dogs, since they are suppos |

I couldnt believe your question. Are you an informed educated adult? If so, youd know that there is an overpopulation of breed dogs and cats. Check any internet site.
All of my animals are spayed and neutered and if youre not going into the area of breeding your Affen- may I suggest getting him or her fixed. Youd be doing that animal and the animal population a big favor.
I just acquired a rescued Affen. Larger than the norm- lighter colour- but I didnt care. Oh, and did I say he was older; not a puppy? God bless those in Rescue! They deserve all of our support and prayers.
I suggest you that you think of your dog and not yourself. |

just dropped in! Since I foster and rescue toy dogs from time to time and work in a humane society, the most unwanted, abandoned, hard to place dogs are intact male toys. The reason why? house manners, leg lifting, marking. Early neutering 4-5 months for toy males almost always prevents all of that and the male squats as mine do for life. No marking, great housemanners, NO CHANGE in personality except more protective and loving of us. |

First, to defuse anymore hatred and anger (some of which I admit harboring), my Affen has been neutered.
Thread began with someone asking for a healthy, unfixed dog, and a breeder questioning her motives. Having to pay $1,500, and care for a hurting dog who had to have his knees reconstructed, I was angered by that stance. Sorry that was uncalled for, but I dont like that fact that breeders pass on what Hearthside called "not breeding quality". For everyones info, Heathside and I email a couple of times and I appreciated her input. She sounds like a loving breeder and I respect her and her views. Kathy, thanks for your input, thats all I was asking for. What I wasnt asking for was the snotty emotional response given by Affen Love. To the charges of being an uneducated moron, please see next post.

Educated? Enough to know that according to AKC, theres usually less than 100 registered Affens a year. Went looking for an Affen to rescue as a buddy for our dog, found none in our area. Educated enough to know that if Taz doesnt run loose, he wont be making puppies. Sorry, overpopulation doesnt cut it.
Marking, house manners? Im educated enough to train my dog through love and rewards to stop it without cutting him up.
Health? I asked for a study showing benefits to a male having his testicles removed. No one, even the Vet, has produced one. Im educated enough to read, send me one!
Show question was sarcastic, and again, sorry. You may not make money at shows, but most breeders charge more for pups from champions. So, to say you cant make money from dog shows isnt totally true.
Finally, how dare you accuse me of loving myself more then my dog, If you knew the money weve spent on medical bills, and the hours of training weve spent with Taz, you |
