Beardies

Hi. I have an 8 yr old daughter who wants to begin 4H next year and were researching different breeds for her. We show saint bernards and obviously, those are just too large for her to work with at this age. We were thinking along the lines of a bearded collie.

is this a wise choice? if anyone with knowledge of this breed and its trainability would please contact me ,I would appreciate it.
