Beagles make wonderful pets but like all breeds they have their pros and cons. Beagles cannot be left alone for long periods of time and if they are they will howl. Beagles are very smart and when they get bored they can get into stuff you don't want them to be into. Beagles need a well fenced in yard and cannot go off lead because they have a tendancy to roam. Beagles have bad habbits such as eating their stool and digging (this can all be prevented by training...etc).
Now for the pros. Beagle puppies are some of the cuties puppies I have ever seen. Beagles are very loving dogs and do well with other dogs and cats (they will chase small animals). They do not need much grooming just the clipping of nails and a weekly brushing. Beagles do very well with children and they will charm any visitor that comes to your house. They learn very quickly if you use food as a motivator. I hope this helps you. If you still feel like a beagle is right for you, I would get a book about beagles. I like Training Your Beagle by Kristine Kraeuter. Also I would check out breeder's web sites...they have a lot of information. |
