Yorkshire Terrier: throwing up yorkie

My new, 12 month old yorkiepoo has recently been throwing up yellow bile. I have been reading about this and apparently it's normal for small dogs, especially yorkies, to throw up bile when they are hungry. I adopted my dog from a volunteer group so i have no background info. on him or any, if any, pre-exsisting conditions. I have been trying desperately to get him to eat more throughout the day, but today after he had a vomiting spell he sort of fell over/passed out. I'm not trying to diagnose him but the logical reason seemed to be he got dizzy and fell over from exhaustion since he hadn't been eating and exhausted himself vomiting. Other than this spell, he is totally normal. his stools are normal and so is his behavior. His appetite is normal too, but he is a little hyperactive. So my question is : Is he just a little hyperactive and need to eat more frequently? or do you think he has a condition that requires a vet visit? please help i don't want to take him to the vet if it's unnecessary. Thanks! |

If the yorkie didn\'t pass out i\'d say everything was normal. You should definitely take him to the vet...they also have products that can help that are like gatorade for dogs. Small dogs, especialy Yorkshire Terriers, can benefit from having this daily in between meals. Good luck! |

I am a retired female on social security. I have a small additional income from watching dogs whos people on on vacation.....not a regular thing.
I have a small and very well trained papillon who is five yrs old. She needs a steady friend as she loves when other dogs are here and seems to mope when they leave. I would love a puppy/young male yorkie or yorkie mix.
Since I\'m mainly on a fixed income, I put away money each month to deal with any medical need that might arise, plus, my family knows my desires and will assist me if needed. |

Yorkshire Terrier: To Autumn regarding yorkie with throwing up problem
|

I don\'t know if you ever found a solution to your yorkie problem, but I know that I went a long time before I found a solution. My little Skipper had this yellow bile problem that caused a vicious cycle. The nausea caused her to loose her appetite; the lack of food in her stomach caused the bile to build up...etc...
after trying different foods, mini meals, meds, etc...we came up with a good solution and her problem is almost non existent now...the vet prescribed 1/4 tab of Metoclopramide 10mg at bedtime. We found that this was slightly too much as it gave her insomnia and made her hyper. We now crush it and give her just a little bit on a finger tip of peanutbutter. She looks forward to it and won\'t even eat her dinner without that first. We also give her four small meals a day--morning, lunch, dinner & bed being her largest meal that holds her to morning. I hope this helps as when left untreated it can be horrible for the little one! Any questions, please feel free to contact me. Sandie |
