We have 2 whippets on a long fenced 3/4 acre lot and the fence is 5 feet chain link. the only time one has escaped in 8 years is following our English setter under the fence when she dug out. Our whippets have never dug holes in the yard either. They can jump to the top of our sliding glass patio doors to get in, but dont seem to know that they are capable of going over the fence. They run and chase other dogs and cats along the fence only. Our little female whippet catches and brings home a good sized rabbit once a year-around Easter. So be careful when you open that back door.
Dont place anything in piles at the fence..I once had a beagle who learned to go over a 4 ft fence by using a pile
of dirt..when the dirt was gone, she still went over!
If a whippet runs too close to a chain link or any fence
poorly maintained, it can tear a patch of skin off where it connects. My big whippet just broke his foot stepping in
a hole formed by somone dumping leftover concrete mix in |
