Hello my name is Chanae and I have a 9 year old Wippet and every time we leave for as long as a weekend he ripps the house apart he ate the door and destroyed the back room doens any one have any suggestions?? I think that it is sepporation angsity??

I am moving to the country with 4 dogs - one is a Whippet. I would like to use an invisible fencing system. My other dogs would do just fine with this but I am wondering about my Whippet, Gracie. I have a Toy Fox Terrier (under l0 pounds) and the current can be adjusted for her without a problem. Is there something I should know about whippets and invisible fences? Gracie is not a runner. My dogs can be out with me unleashed and not go anywhere, but I want the fence so they can be out without supervision. Any suggestions? |

My name is Pat Hurley and I am hoping that someone out there in Whippet cyber world is familiar with the Newcombe family in New Port Richey Florida, owners of Penneyworth Kennel. We have one their terrific four year old males and have tried in vain to reach them for weeks. Have they closed down, stopped showing their Whippets, fallen off the face of the earth?!

I called into a radio station to try to win a trivia contest. The question was, what dog has the best eyesight? I said a whippet, and of course they had no idea what a whippet was. I told them it was a small version of a greyhound and greyhound was the answer that they said was correct. Does a greyhound have the best eyesight of any dog or are all sighthounds basicaly the same. |

I would like to know if all wippets are as stubborn/stupid as ours, If I sound upset I am, we have a three year old male whippet who has never been 100% housebroken, he will do great for 2 or 3 weeks then wet in the house, because of this we have to crate him at night and when were gone, which I hate. he will also get into the garbage and cat food the minute your not looking even after being told no 50 times. we do love him, but wish we could break him of these bad traits. please dont say it is us ,or that the owner has to be smarter than the dog, we have other dogs that behave perfectly, and Ive seen very smart dogs with poeple that shouldnt raise a rock. any advice would be appreciated, thanks... |

My whippet, sacha age 18 months, is suffering from hair loss. I have taken her to the vet and they have done a biopsy and a scrape, she had a mild form of dermititis which they treated with antibiotics but the hair loss continues and the vet cannot give any indications as to why. Can anyone out there help me and my dog????? |

Hi, Were getting ready to get a Whippet and are getting our yard ready. It is just under an acre in size. Our question is what type of fencing, how high and will they try dig out? We have rabbits and squirrels and a cat now and then, will they jump the fence to go after them?

I keep reading message after message asking how to find a whippet. First, contact American Whippet Club. They will have a list of breeders in your area. Or, log on to the AKC website, find out when and where conformation events are in your area. Go and talk to whippet breeders. They should tell you when they plan to have another litter or if they do rescue...have them take your number. Sometimes breeders will want to place an older dog in a pet home, this just means that the dog didnt turn out to be show or breeding quality. These dogs make wonderful pets! |

Whippets have a very short, smooth coat. They are low shed dogs and some say they are hypoallergenic. I know that my breeder welcomes people into their homes quite often to "test" their allergies. They had a couple visit with their son who had severe allergies and he was fine for the hour and half they were there, and they have nine whippets -all as housedogs. Now this family has two whippets and their son is doing fine. Check for breeders in your area and maybe they will allow you to do the same. You can find breeders by contacting the American Whippet Club. |
