i have an eight year old westie. he is able to sense and warn me when I am about to have a seizure. I would lide to get a puppy to train for the same. I would like to raise him so he will learn from my older dog. I do not need a show quality dog. He will be my companion. I would like a male. Money is tight, so I can't pay top dollar. |

Help! We have a 4 year old full breed Westie that has been sick for 2 months. Harry's vet cant work it out. Any ideas? Harry has had a snotty nose, green snot, sneezes 5-10 times an hour, cant breathe properly at night. He has had normal blood test results, normal x-ray and has trialed 2 antibiotics with little effect. Anyone had anything similar in their little white friends? |

I am going to look at a puppy this afternoon. What do I need to look for? I originally wanted a female but the breeder only has males left. My mom has a bichon frise who exhibits some male characterisitics I don't really care for. The breeder said if you neuter by 4 months they don't do the leg thing. Also I am concerned about the skin allergies Westies are prone to. The breeder said her male and female do not have skin allergies. Are they hyperactive? Anything else I need to know?

Westie lovers beware. Please check references for breeders. I recently made the mistake of not checking on a breeder and ended of with an extremely ill puppy. After 2 surgeries my baby is fine. I contacted the breeder to let her know of the situation, but she never returned my phone calls. I dont want to see this happen to anyone else. I am taking steps to see what can be done about this situation. Anyone have any suggestions?? |

Our year-old Westie has had problems since she was five months old. Originally they suspected parvo. Vomiting, severe diarrhea, and she was hospitalized for several days. It was not parvo. For the last several months, she has had a red rash, welts, and heat spots all over her underbody, losing the hair on her legs. She has been treated for thyroid and yeast problems, and has been on cortisone, atarax, and antibiotics. Any suggestions? This has run into mega bucks and it looks like no one knows what to treat her for! Help! |

My wife and I have a neutered male purebred Westie, born November 15, 1999. We are his first owners (other than
the breeder) and we got him in early February, 2000.
We are having serious behaviour problems with him. He seems to have not grown out of the "puppy" stage, he
chews whatever he can get his teeth around...constantly. Our efforts at toilet training have been fruitless. Even
though he is in his own restricted area in the house during the day (my wife and I both work), and generally does
his business in the area we have provided for him, he refuses to use it when he has the run of the rec room,
such as when we are at home. He pees wherever he happens to be when the urge strikes, and will often have
a dump in the corner where he thinks no one will look.
So far, he has torn up several long strips of the carpet, chewed the upholstery off the front of the couch, and gnawed
just about any woodwork that is within reach. He has a "big brother", |

I just got a new puppy born February 1, 2000 from a litter of Janet Schneiders in Palmyra, NJ through someone who could not keep the puppy. I cant contact that person as they are away. I need to know what shots the puppy had I did not get complete information from the person who originally got the puppy. What should I do. I was given a westie pup four days ago from a coworker who could not take care of it. He is 4 months old, Im having problems housebraking him. He is used to being in his crate for more than 10 hours a day, so he is used to do his business in the crate. Now that I have him, Im trying to brake the habit but he just wont stop. I have to get up three to four times a night so that I can take him outside and not have him do his thing in the create. But I need sleep. Can someone help me with this problem. I dont wnat to get rid of him, hes to cute and Im already in love. |

I just contacted a Westie breeder to see about adopting a Westie pup, well when they told me the price I just about fell out of my chair..can anyone tell me what a good price is for a Westie???

Hi, my name is Becky. Im going to see a Westie tomorrow that was advertised in the paper for $285.00. There are no papers on him, he was born Dec. 31,1999. I believe this is a puppy mill, which is why Im going to investigate. Im in the Indiana/Chicagoland area. If anyone of you are interested in this little guy, please contact me immediately. Id like to get him out of there, I do know hes living in a cage amoung a bunch of other dogs/pups, she admitted that much. He is fullblooded, just not registered AKC. There is no phone number to this place, just a number to leave a message, and the lady claims she runs a grooming business, (with no phone)right?
