The perfect breed

I myself thought I had done my research on the soft coated Wheaten breed. Ha! I must have been the one who got the genetically defective kind. Our dog is completely unsociable. People are blaming me because she had to fly on an airplane 0 that's why she's so crazy. OKAY... granted I will never purchase a dog online again from a "breeder" who sounded as old as my teenage daughter. But I don't put too much stake into a plane ride totally screwing up an animals mental psyche permantly, I'm sorry but that is just ignorant. My dog who has seemingly become more hostile toward all family members, accept my 3 year old at this point has me wondering if I should try to give her up for adoption or put her to sleep. Seriously, the snarling if approaching, the barking and growling at my older children, all whom have been raised around our previous dog and with no problems at all. They do not tease or are antaogonistic towards animals what so ever. To be quite honest, when they just simply try and giver her attention I fear one day she will nip their faces off! She lays underneath the kitchen table all day and rarely will wander into another room. We got another much kinder dog, thinking she was just a pac animal and maybe she would come out of her cocoon - nothing is helping her. She is disinterested in people and potentially threatening. She has bitten my husband while he was trying to help her x 2. This is just ridiculous - thankyou lady in Kansas for selling me a reject with papers. Whoever you are you should stop the spread of that gene.

I feel so badly for you that you are not having a good experience with your Wheaten. I knew very little about Wheatens except their adorable appearance when I begin researching them last Fall (2008). What I did know is that Kansas, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania - and that general part of the country is a common area for puppy mills. I would hang up on a breeder that would ship cross country. (I drove across 3 states to pick up my puppy). I discovered the SCWTCA.org - \"Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Club of America\". Do NOT buy a dog from a breeder whose club does not have a set of ethics or a genetics committee. They have to prove the health of the dogs they are breeding - even going back generations. They CARE about the breed and the temperments of the dogs they breed. The behavior you are experiencing in Wheatens is rare. They are the \"least\" of the terrier breed regarding aggressiveness and temperment. If you go to a dog show....visit the terrier section. The Wheaten area is the quietest and most laid-back ...when all around them is bedlam from the other terrier breeds. Our Seamus is the best dog we have ever owned, and as I write this, my sister is in Denver picking up her Wheaten puppy from the same breeder because our entire family has fallen in love with Seamus. He is active, he is a clown.People stop us every few feet when he is out with us. He is also the easiest dog I have ever had to train and the least destructive. His only \"fault\" is that he is currently, at 9 mos, being a finicky eater occasionally. I am hoping a dog behavioral expert can be of help to you and give you the loving Wheaten you deserve.

If you purchased your dog on line or in the pet store you have a Puppy Mill Dog. The poor animals are abused, not fed properly, never groomed, no vet, left in cages all their life, left in extremely hot weather and also cold weather, no human contact except to be hosed down or mated repeatedly. These dogs are the product of abuse.

The problem isn\'t the dog, it\'s you. Even the worst dogs from puppy mills are routinely saved and socialized with the proper training. You should never have bought a dog that you had no time to properly train, esspescially a mail order dog over the internet. It\'s incredibly easy to find responsible dog breeders anywhere in the United States or the yellow pages. The fact that this dog could potentially be put down because of your negligence should make you feel ashamed. Next time, I\'d suggest getting a cat.
