Goldie (I love your name by the way, it was my grandmother's),
I'm going through the same thing with my 5-month-old husky. I posted a message yesterday hoping that someone had some info. If you find out what it is or you can get rid of your dog's diarrhea PLEASE let me know. I have had her for about 2 1/2 months and I've spent $465 in vet bills - that does include about $175 in shots but the rest has been spent on trying to figure out what the problem is. I'm SO frustrated!! I've heard that huskies have finicky stomachs, so I have mine on a bland dog food - Hill's Prescription ID, but so far it hasn't done anything to harden the stool. She's back on Flagyl to try to harden it... will let you know if that works long-term.
I've been told it could be Giardia or something else - I can't remember the name of it... (something that starts with an "O" maybe?) but her stool has been sent to the lab to be put under special lights and such... I'm just hoping it's nothing serious.
Keep in touch, let me know what you find out and I'll do the same.

I received a call from my vet yesterday afternoon and she said that all the tests came back negative. She has talked to another vet who said that it could be low-grade giardia and it usually isn't detectable, but it can be treated. She prescribed an antibiotic and still wants me to give her Flagyl twice daily. She had a normal stool yesterday but had diarrhea again this morning. Poor puppy. :o( If anyone has any advice PLEASE help!
Thanks,

Try a tbsp of yogert with active cultures daily. This kills bacteria in the digestive track. Yogert was the only thing that actually helped my sibe. Good luck. |

Siberian Husky: Looking for information

I just took in a Siberian Husky today that is red and white. He was found in our yard and we are 25 miles from the nearest town so I am assuming he was dumped off. I checked with everyone out in my area and nobody knows a thing about him. He looks young, maybe a year or two old and he is a neutered male. I have no experience with this breed and I have a couple questions before I take him to town to the vet on Thursday. He appears to have diarrhea and he is drooling a lot. Do these dogs normally have really wet drippy mouths and noses? It is clear saliva but he drips on the floor. Also he howls when I leave the room. He is very mellow and seems to be well behaved, he hasn\'t bothered anything and is afraid of loud noises. Also if anyone has anything they feel is important to know about this breed please let me know. If we don\'t get any responses from the newspaper adds we took out we will be adding him to our family. |
Siberian Husky: Husky Diarrhea...Need Help!

I have a 3 month old female Siberian husky who has a horrible diarrhea. I know huskies are known to have loose stool but this is practically coming out like water. She was on antibiotics when I first purchased her and I thought maybe that was the problem but it has been 2 weeks since going off the medicine and it\'s still not better. I also thought that it could be the heartworm medication but same thing. I have her on Nutro Brand Large Breed Puppy and Nutro Sensitive Stomach Puppy Treats. The vet doesn\'t seem to concerned with the diarrhea but I can\'t imagine that it feels to great for my pup (not to mention that it\'s a pain to clean)! Any ideas? |
Siberian Husky: 10 wk old Sibe w/ loose bowels

Our Male Sibe pup has had loose stools off and on since we got him a month ago. We have done the vet thing, food thing and late today loose stool started again. I\'ve been feeding him homecooked Chicken & Rice while trying too introduce High quailty kibble into the mix to switch to straight kibble. His stool firms up when I don\'t add the kibble. Everytime, I bump up the kibble content, loose stool is the result. Our 18 wk old female Sibe don\'t seem to be affected by the food content. Have tried 4 different brands of the good kibble, either they eat it or spit it out and just eat the Chicken & Rice.
I\'m wondering if it being too hot could possibly be adding to the problem as well.
Anyone have any NEW ideas? |

Siberian Husky: 8 month old Husky with diarrhea

We have an 8 month old male Husky who has pretty much always had diarrhea. We feed him home cooked chicken and rice which helps a litte. Any introduction of kibble or wet food makes his stool very loose. Certain treats and foods have actually make his stool come out like water, projectile diarrhea. We have had all the usual blood and stool tests and tried medication, the vets are stumped. Also his back legs tremble when he stands, he has energy to run and seems fairly normal but we know he is not absorbing the minerals and vitamins from the food and is suffering. It seems this is very common on Huskys but no one has the answer, please help. Our other husky is a 14 month old bitch and eats working dog kibble and tinned food, her stool is solid and shes very health. |
