my dog smells like urine

Every time I let my shih tzu out to go to the bathroom he has to be wiped off or he will smell and alot of times even by wiping him off doesn\'t help. does any one else have this problem and do you have any answers on what to do???????

I have a male shih tzu, who will be 4 in Dec. He is great, very loving,easy going and happy. I have been asked by a friend if I would take her 11yr. old Female shih tzu, who she feels needs a new home because her nor her family have time for the dog, who is spending most of its time outside. My concern is about my dog, and how it will affect him...is it a good idea to bring this dog into our home?

I usually just peruse and read the posts but I just had to post today... I just bought a hand painted ornament and some dog bows for my shih tzu & yorkie mix and they are gorgeous!! I wanted to share the company because it seems as though they are pretty new and I always like to help the little guys out :o). I have a wonderful black and white 7 month old Shih Tzu. We live in Nc . He is AKC certified. His markings are spectacular. We have plenty of pictures. We are looking for a stud fee we are not interested in the pick of the litter.

Hello Does anyone have an 8 week old shih tzu that you can measure up for me? I\'d like to make a dog sweater for someone with a pup that age, but am not sure what sizt to make it... I\'d need to know the neck, chest, and back length measurements. If anyone can help, I\'d greatly appreciate it :) Thanks !

Hello, I was petting my girlfriend\'s Shih Tzu on the back of its neck last night when it bit me right in the face. My natural instinct was to grab it and throw it off of me as she broke skin on my lips. The dog ran off for a few minutes but came back as it had popped it\'s eye out about half way. Is this something that is common? I feel horrible, but I honestly didn\'t use excessive force. She went immediately to the vet and is getting cared for.

Hi everybody!! I hope you can help me. My husband and I just adopted a 6 years old, female Shih Tzu. She had a family before but they dump her because she was getting old. Her hair is in really bad shape because they never care for her, I try to brush but hurts her and its not healthy hair. Can I shave her completly so she grows good hair?? or is there any other solution?? Thank you so much!!

I just got my Shih-tzu puppy about 10 days ago. She was completely trained using the wee wee pads when I got her. She is going on 11weeks in a couple of days and it seems like everytime I go out she seems to go to the bathroom in my computer area. Is she doing this out of spite cause I left her alone? She hasnt been here long enough to realize??

I bought a puppy a few months back that was sold as a shih tzu. As she has matured; the pudgy little thing that she was has become sleek and muscular. Her hair is short over most of her body with the exception of tail and backs of her legs and chest. The face, head and back has straight hair that is short. Is this possible? I was under the impression that all shih tzu had long hair. Have I been had? Or is this little girl unique?

I have two Shih Tzu\'s, male, brothers, they are approaching two years old and still go to the bathroom in the house(urine). They have a pet door and a fenced back yard, these are the only dogs I have ever had that continue to do this! I am ready to get rid of these dogs, any suggestions?

We have just found a Shih Tzu in the park and have and him cleaned up. He is between 2 & 3 years old and does not like have a collar or a harness put on him. What is the recommendation for training him to wear the collar or the harness.

I have a Shih Tzu called Jasper he is about 8 years old now a really a good companion, he is golden and white in colour. I bathe him about every 3 weeks and groom him everyday as I find he get\'s a lot of tangles if I don\'t do this. I have him cut and normally washed every 8 weeks Shih Tzu\'s are hard to groom if their fur grows to long and it gets knotted as I have said. When people buy a Shih Tzu pup they should take into consideration the groomimg and the cost in having the dog cut on a regular basis. But they are worth all the time and effort as they are so adorable I think.

I have a 2 yr old male shih tzu and sometimes when he jumps off the bed he will tremble and can\'t walk on his leg. It\'s over in a few minutes, but my vet has no idea what this might be. My groomer told me it may be a ligament issue. Has anyone else ever experienced this with their dog?

Hi there, My 19 week old shih tzu was recently shaved (by me) and her tail is bothering her. Is it possible that she doesn\'t like having no hair back there? I\'m not sure what other explanations there are, I inspected her thoroughly and she is healthy. Also, it started literally right after I shaved her.

Hi Everyone, I need to write graphically, my apologies. I have had my dog to the vet, and what has been prescribed and/or recommended has not ended my pet\'s discomfort. It has been 10 months (writing this in late July 09). My wonderful 7 year old neutered male dog has developed skin sores. I try to do what I can to keep him comfortable, and when I comb him, light brown... stuff... comes off. To keep the hair from matting and to allow some air to get to the sores, I shaved as much as he would allow. Between the existing sores and erupting sores, petting him is unpleasant. And he smells. I bathe him using Malaseb as directed, and he has trouble keeping his body temperature up. He shivers for hours, and must be wrapped in a blanket. He also gets simplicef 100 mg antibiotic. He is relatively active, eats, does not have a food allergy, and the vet has not yet found a cure. Any similar problems? Thyroid problems? Immune system disorders?

does anyone have a shih tzu who suffers from portosystemic shunt disease? This affects the liver. Pepper is 10 and was diagnosed when she was 4. Anyone know anything about life span with this disorder?
