Pigmentation problems

My 6 year old shih tzu is experiencing dark black skin under his belly area. I originally had him on purina lamb/rice however through the years the problem worsened. I took him to my vet and he suggested that I try other brands. I have used Precise Sensicare Formula which did begin to clear up his skin however it was causing him to vomit about 3 times a week. I then tried Wellness Fish/Sweet potato formula and his skin turned completely dark again. I do give him raw hide bones about 3 times a week. Could this be the problem? Are pig ears a better solution? I really don't want to stop giving him these treats because he absolutely loves them! Any body else out there have problems with blackening of skin under the belly area? On a side note, my shih tzu also sneezes a lot. Is this normal for this breed? I welcome any and all input!! Thank you.

Your Shih Tzu may have allergies, and although your dog loves rawhide they are not recommended, especially pig ears. The breed is known for snorting quite frequently because of the small/close nose.
