I just bought a shih Tzu puppie 10 weeks old he only weighs a little over a pound is this right for this type of dog?

I recently purchased a 7 week shih tzu, he is too young to be taken outside to potty, so I'm tring to get him to go on some paper and he totally refuses to eliminate on the paper he will hold it until he is on the carpet then he eliminates, any suggestions would be very appreciated.

My 2 year old Shih-Tzu has a Urinary Tract Infection. She has been given Antibotics 2 times for 10 days each, without any apparent effect. We changed Vets and she is currently on her third round of Antibotics, This Vet said she should take them for at least 3 weeks. Also she does not seem to be drinking enough water. What I am wondering is, does anyone know of a natural remedy for this? Maybe Herbs or Cranberry Juice? Thanks for any help, Mike.

My 6 year old shih tzu is experiencing dark black skin under his belly area. I originally had him on purina lamb/rice however through the years the problem worsened. I took him to my vet and he suggested that I try other brands. I have used Precise Sensicare Formula which did begin to clear up his skin however it was causing him to vomit about 3 times a week. I then tried Wellness Fish/Sweet potato formula and his skin turned completely dark again. I do give him raw hide bones about 3 times a week. Could this be the problem? Are pig ears a better solution? I really don't want to stop giving him these treats because he absolutely loves them! Any body else out there have problems with blackening of skin under the belly area? On a side note, my shih tzu also sneezes a lot. Is this normal for this breed? I welcome any and all input!! I have a 3 year old female shih tzu. She developed allergies (skin problems) about a year ago. My vet gives her cortizone shots and she is okay for about a week and then goes right back to constant scratching and biting of her back legs. I suggested that an allergy test be done, but there is no dermatology vet in my area. I would have to go out of state. Does anyone have a remedy or any information about this condition? Hi! i am a proud owner of a 7 month shihtzu, her name is jinnioe and i got her when she was 7 weeks old.I am not very experienced but i brush her daily and i wanna know how much time it takes a shih tu to have its full hair and do i need to do anything specific to make it faster or any special treatements? W e dont get different kinds of shampoos so i dunno how to take care of it, though i am trying my best and how to remove ear stains...pls help, ill be thankful:)

hi, i am new here. we own 2 shih tzu's. one is golden and is almost 9 months old. we are waiting for our darling new white and golden to come home at the age of 10 weeks. i have trouble keeping holly tangle and matt free. i comb every day but she gets those mats right under her legs and breast. she hates wire brushes and other then that nothing really cuts through the coat. she will tolerate a comb, but it is a human comb i use right now. i don't want to shave her, want her to grow that beautiful shih tzu coat. but.......i need to get ahead of the tangles. also is there a shampoo or other products that help keep her coat from matting so badly? thanks in advance. I need suggestions on how to keep my dogs tail from matting. It curls within itself, like a pigs tail. What a mess if I don't comb it everyday.

My mother is now suffering from dementia and cannot care for her shih tzu. Hi, My name is Marie. I keep my Shih Tzu, Brandy, short too. She looks so cute. Every time I get her groomed they put a little bandana on her for the upcoming holiday. Mine doesn't like bows in the top knot or ears, so I keep her short. She is so loveable and cuddly. My husband is not allergic to her like he was our cat. We rescued a little dog, we thought it was a Shih Tzu, I think now after we had him groomed , we had to have him shaved, because he was in horrible shape, that maybe he may be shih Tzu, Lhasa Apso mixed. I would really like to find out something about their personalitys. He growls a lot like he will eat you up, but sometimes I think that is his defense. He hasn't bitten anyone so far, but my groomer had to put a muzzle on him to groom him, and this was after he was sedated. Also, is there any way to find out how old he may be. What is the best food for these kind of dogs?Thank you in advance.

Is it real important to pluck the hairs in their ears on a regular basis. My puppy is 3 months old and have never done it.

I have a 3 month old shih tzu puppy who is absolutely wonderful. However, I give him a cheese goldfish when he goes potty outside and he never has an accident. Is this treat bad for him? He is 6lbs and terrific. He looks forward to the treat.

Hi, we brought home a 4 month old shih tzu puppy 4 days ago. His feeding sched is 1/4 cup dogfood 3 times a day. The first 2 days he was a ravenous eater. But in the last two days he seems to have lost his appetite. Now he prefers to eat when the food is in my hand. If he doesn't eat from my hand, he eats very little. He also drinks very little water. Is this normal? Is he just lonely? What should I do? Thanks!!!

Dear Members, I am very upset because we brought a new shih tzu puppy (6 weeks/Female) into our home on Monday. We introduced it to our two other shih tzus (male 10/female 9) and they are very upset. They run from it and won't come around her at all. Our male dog even snapped and snarled at it today. The poor puppy is so excited to play, but they barely even look at it. Can someone please help me on this?? I am worried. How long will it take to adapt and will everything go back to normal?? I don't want the male to bite her =( Thanks a bunch SusanKay22

My six week old Shih-tzu, Kirby, has just been removed from a loving family of eight siblings and his mother and father. He has been with us for three nights, and while he is the most adorable pet anyone could ask for during the day -- at night he whines, cries, and creates such chaos that no one can sleep! IF we get him out of his "area" and take him to bed with us, he hushes and is totally content. However, this isn't an answer to the problem...for we do not want him to become use to sleeping in bed with family members. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to relieve his anxieties, and allow my household to get a good nights sleep...and help my pup to gain an appreciation for his own personal "time alone" at night?

Hello I have a question about scratching/biting/fleas. It seems as though our 16-month-old Malti-Poo X Shih Tzu really likes to bite her self? We were told this was a good indicator that she might have fleas? We are in Toronto Canada though, and many people we speak to say it’s not flee season, too cold? We have searched all over her, in her fur, near her stomach and can’t seem to find any fleas? She seems to be biting at her fur on her tail, legs, etc. She also scratches her ears a lot. The guy at the pet store said that she was maybe to young for a flea and tick shampoo? Is it normal for puppies to bite their hair a lot? I know she is teething b/c she likes to chew everything else:) How do we know if we have fleas? And what should we do?

Hello Where do I begin? I have read most of the history trying to locate some answers for questions we have. But I couldn’t get exact answers. We have a 16-week-old Malti-Poo X purebred Shih Tzu (so it seems to be more dominant a Shih Tzu). > Feeding and Eating Poo - We were told by our breeder to just put food down all the time, and let her eat when she wants. This is hard to train her to go outside, as it is unpredictable when she will need to go? So many people we spoke to said feed her in the morning, and wait half and hour to take her out and she should go. Sometimes she does, others times no. Anyway, for the 1st week when we got her (she was 14 weeks old) we followed the breeder’s advice and left her food down, all the time. Now we changed this for the past 2 weeks and feed her in the morning 7:00 AM and at night 5:00 PM. And at night she always seems to eat her poo, in fact sometimes all of it:( Now I have read in the posts that this not as harmful as I thought, but it is NOT A GOOD HABITAT TO GET INTO. The problem is usually we do not catch her in the act (always late at night). Actually she does go on her paper in the kitchen, and if we are there we clean it up in time. But today 2 hours ago i heard dome noise in the kitchen, and low and behold she gone, and eaten half of it. But she was in the other room. I have heard that it is not good to take them to the incident and try and correct it, is this true? - Please help? What should we do? Is this cause for concern?

Hi there! I am so happy to share this problem with you fellow owners. four year old female Zosha... my pride and joy... has never quite become house broken. I have owned many large dogs and this is my first toy... Once in a while, she would defacate in the house at night.. lately her stools are more soft.. but not diarhheea... more copious than usual... and it is every night and if she could get to the landing, it might be more often. Had her tested for worms.. nope.. the vet now says... try her with no food for a day and then go to the science high fiber bland diet... for three days... if she is still soft and copious then we will test for Giardia which she has had before. okay... now is this medical or behavioral... We are moving and I have been packing for two months.. is she becoming very sensitive to this????? I love her but this has got to get fixed up. It is taking too much worry time for me.... yah, I know I probably gotta crate her and start over.. plus I can't have her messing in the new house!!! HELP!!!!! Irene
