I purchased our lovely "Isabelle" from Scamps Pet store in Beaverton, Oregon. (I do not support the puppy mills etc..!!!) Isabelle captured our hearts and we couldn't put her back in the cage so we brought her home. Before purchasing her, we were told that she is from a local breeder named Christa Hansen and that the reason she was sold through the pet store was because she is missing a toe and not show quality. I am trying locate this breeder but have not been successful - the Pet store will not give me her number. She is registered with the AKC and I have recently seen one of her dogs win at an Olympic dog show in the Northwest. We would like to breed Isabelle and keep one or two of her babies and give the others to friends. We are not intending to breed for profit. I called a breeder in my area who was discusted that we bought her from a pet store and said I won't be able to find a stud dog under these circumstances. Any help or advice would be appreciated. |

When does a scottie start holding their tail up. I have a 4 month old scottie male. He doesnt hold his tail up yet, kind of holds it out behind him or down. My 3 year old male holds his up, but I cant remember if it was always that way or if he did it as he matured? |

When you speak to the scottie breeder, here are several questions you may wish to ask them.
Are you a member of the Scottish Terrier Club of America? If so, you will know that they have signed a strict code of ethics.
Have you tested your dogs for vWD? vonWillebrands disease is a bleeding disorder which can now be determined by a DNA test through VetGen Inc.
Do your dogs have skin problems? Ask them if they grow furnishings. That is longer hair on the sides. Some poorly bred scotties have poor hair coat, and it doesnt grow long enough to cover. Some scotties are very allergic and it shows up in skin lesions.
How much does the sire and dam weigh? If the breeder is not aware of the AKC standard, and the dogs are well over sized or undersized, then they may not be well bred. Males should weigh 19-22 lb and females 18-21.
Do you guarantee? For how long? Can I return the dog?
If there are no champions in the pedigree, I would worry about the quality of the dog. |

I was wondering what would be a reasonable price to pay for a red scottie from a reputable breeder? I have not talked to any breeders or found any red scotties as of yet, but would like to know what to expect price wise for this color. I know that it is rare. Thanks in advance. |

Scottish Terrier: Wheaten Puppy or young Wheaten
|
Posted Date: 2000-08-13 12:45:00 By: Ute (allemagna)
We just lost our beloved 11-week-young wheaten mail "Dundee". We, my husband, our son and especially 3 year-old Scottish Terrier Scooter, have a hard time getting over this great loss. We are interested to getting another puppy simular to him. He had a caramel color and looked almost like a miniture "simba" of the movie Lion King. We have a rock in our garden where he always used to sit on and it reminded us so much to the movie when Sima was at pride rock. However, we would also be interested to purchase a little older dog, maybe one year or so. We live in Wisconsin and there is not a breeder around who has wheatens, so we are prepared to drive. We would prefer not to wait any longer since we would not like to train a puppy during the cold Wisconsin winter. We also would take a rescue dog if he would get along with our dog Scooter who is a female Scottie. Any help or advise is appreciated |

Is there are breeder near Thomasville, NC with Scottish Terriers? I located one in Greensboro called Jovial
Kennels, however their price is exhorbitant....$950!!! that sounds just a little extreme to me....Of course, my
Scottie was purchased in 1972 and I realize that prices have soared, but from $112.50 to $950 is what percent?
I would like a small, black female with a great disposition! I was owned by a Scottie for 13 yrs. and I adore them
thanks for reading my message!! jan |

Im a dog trainer in the NY area, a Scottie owner and lover. I rescued and am currently fostering a 14 month old, black, neutered male Scottie. I can fill in the details for anyone who is interested, but in a nutshell...
I believe that this can ultimately be a good pet for the right home. Hes woefully undersocialized and as a result is a dog who is fearful of new situations and people. Hand-shy, easily startled, he will need a calm, predictable environment and an owner who is experienced with dogs and can not only build his confidence but reinforce good (non fearful) behavior. Someone who is impatient and heavy-handed or someone who is overly indulgent and simply feels sorry for him will create aggression problems and/or make this dog a complete emotional cripple.
To his credit, hes friendly and playful with people he knows. Hes not in the least bit dominant or dog-aggressive, doesnt leg-lift, and loves to retreive tennis balls. Rather long-legged, hed make a good ag |
