I have been informed that in Illinois, there is a bill to require licensing and immediately spayed or neutered of certain breeds (Saint Bernards are on the list). I would be interested in having people list the height/weight (confirmed - not guess) of their Saints. I've had people tell me of 260-300 pounds Saints & I have a hard time believing that. Also if you could post the age. I have a male 1.7 years old 165lbs and 30.5 inches at the shoulders.

hi, first time here, just needed to talk, my big beautiful saint (ALFIE)passed away monday morning,it happened very suddenly, me and my family are still in shock,and grieving,he was my baby.I can,t do anything but cry, because he,s everywhere in the house, I won.t vacumn my bedroom because I can still lay on rug and smell him. We had 8 great years with him,time goes to fast! Sorry to be such a downer just needed to talk to other saint people!

I Recently Purchased My Second Saint Puppy. I'm Beginning To Question, If She Is A Purbred Saint. She Is 6 Weeks And Weighs a Only 6lbs 10oz. She has all correct Markings. I never saw the mother, because the breeder sold her before we came to see the puppies. It was also dark when went to look if i had seen the condition of things before i would never have placed a deposit on the dog. When i went a few days later to pick her up the breeder was giving the puppies their shots herself, which by the way caused a reaction she now has a lump of inflamatory tissue on her shoulder blades. The puppies stayed in a bird cage a large bird cage and the parent saints were in very very small pens with too many dogs to a pen. the water was green and the pens needed cleaning and they looked under fed. So what do i do now??

Dear friend I have a genuine doubt about rabies. I would like to know whether the dog, which has vaccinated antirabby, is safe from rabies. Some of the doctors told me we have to vaccinate again if the dog is bitten by a rabid animal. If it is so what is the use of antirabby vaccine. Is the rabies is originated from the body of dogs itself, without contact of rabid animal, bats, or raccoons. Some people say if vaccinated a dog antirabby, it will not show the symptoms of rabies though its affected rabies. Is it true? Please reply

Ron, I would like to know first where did you get this saint bernard puppy? Did you do your homework before buying her? Did you seek out a respected breeder? Did you ask for health certificates on hips & eyes of both parents? If you did not do these things then I am sorry but it is as much your fault as the breeders. The one I feel sorry for is the puppy who did not ask to be brought into this world. If buyers would demand higher standardsn then breeders would be forced to comply. and this is coming from a breeder.

8 Saint Bernards born on Easter morning. Surprised! All doing wonderful, vet checked and all in excellent health. What a blessing. They already weigh 2 to 3 lbs. only 5 days old. They make such wonderful family dogs. Now I need a 40 acre farm. LOL

Does the short hair breed cope better with the heat and humidity? I heard these were all temp. dogs, but we live on the MS Gulf Coast. We always felt sorry for ANY long hair breed of dog that we saw during the summer! I want a Saint soo bad, we are out in the country with a 4 acre yard. I think it would be perfect, but not sure of the hot climate. Oh, also how are they with wildlife? We have a lot of deer and rabbits, I know they are gentle with humans...but what about wildlife?

This may sound silly, but can a person tell by looking at Saint puppies whether they are going to have short hair or long hair? How?

Does the long haired variety mat?

Does the long hair shed in clumps like German Shepherds or Goldens?

Is the short hair coarse or soft?
