German VS American We are often asked, “What is the difference between a German Rottweiler and an American Rottweiler?” The most obvious difference is that the German dogs now have tails. The truth is that the German breeders must breed in strict compliance to the standard; their dogs must pass a breed suitability test and have their hips certified before they can be bred. American breeders are free to do whatever they please -- no tests of any kind are required before they can breed. Because of these facts, the American bloodline Rottweilers typically do not fit within the breed standard, thus do not look or act like a correctly bred (German) Rottweiler. Of course, these are broad generalizations; there are good and bad traits in all bloodlines.
