Rottweiler: Rottweiler - Too Young To Adopt?

Posted Date: 2008-05-02 23:17:02 By: Brian
I am fairly new to rottweilers, but I am looking at adopting one and had a question about her. The people that I am looking to adopt from have a 7 week old female rottweiler. I heard from an unconfirmed source that if you take a young rottwieler away from their mother too early that they may have serious problems or could possibly death. Any truth to this? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Rottweiler: Living with other dogs

Hello. I have a 2.5 year old neutered Rottweiler and I recently moved in to a new house with a roommate who has a neutered Weimeraner. our dogs have had a problem getting along, and I'm looking into options to keep them both safe. Obviously, my concern is for the other dog, as my Rott is much bigger and stronger. I have decided to either install a long chain in the yard, or possibly add on to the existing fence in the backyard and section off part of it for my dog. The only problem is, I don't own the house so I'm not sure if the fence idea will fly. The chain option would be best, but I've heard that chained dogs can become aggressive over time.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated! |

I have been reading about distal sensorimotor polyneuropathy. My dog is in a lot of pain... He goes to the vet this evening but would like to go with knowledge in hand about what could possibly be wrong... He has been limping on front right foot for a few days and now finds it difficult to move at all... He has no wounds or sores on his leg.He has a hot spot on his nub (tail) that may or may not have anything to do with this but it seems quite raw... Anyone know about this disease mentioned above. I have read write ups about it but it is not written in"English" lol... Too technical for me... Please help ... My Big boy is 5 yrs old 125lbs and has shown some history of hip problems from time to time....

Rottweiler: Health Question

I'm a relatively new dog owner - a wonderful rotty - but I've got a question. He will only 'do his business' in our backyard. At first, I thought 'cool - I don't have to pick up after him in public'. But last month, my family went on a 2 day vacation (no dogs allowed..), and placed Harley in a kennel (very clean, well maintained). When I brought him home, it literally took several minutes and attempts to empty his bladder! Even on short road trips of a few hours, I'll give him several opportunities to relieve himself, but he will not. Is this a 'vet' issue? Thanks! |

Rottweiler: Thought this may help someone

Hi all,
I have a beloved 12 year old Rottweiler named Rocco. He has
recently begun to struggle with arthritis in his back legs and he
already was suffering from the beginnings of congestive heart
failure. Recently however, a friend of mine turned me on to a new
nutritional supplement for dogs called Canine Health Formula. It is
a specific blend of fatty acids known for its antiinflammatory and
heart protecting effects. Since I have started Guinness on this
daily supplement he has been like a new dog. I can't remember the
last time he was able to walk without a limp, and he never seems to
labor anymore. I asked my vet about it and he wholeheartedly
supported my decision to start him on this. Nonetheless, I just
wanted to pass this info along to my fellow dog owners. I definitely
think it is worth a try. Also...my friend actually told me that the
reason he was using it in the first place is the effect it has on
stopping itching from allergies. I don't know much about this
because, luckily, my dog never suffered from them. I ordered mine
off of the website. I will provide the link for any that think that
it may be of help to their dog.

I took in a female Rottweiler from a so called friend that was having problems. The female had been bred to a male I have known for some quite some time. The female gave birth to 10 beautiful pups,5 males and 5 females. The problem I have is both parents are registered but the so called friend cannot be found, therefore I now have no papers for Mom.
Can anyone help me with any other registry other than AKC that are respected for registering this breed.
Thanks in advance. |

Rottweiler: rabies in dogs
|
Posted Date: 2003-04-10 04:04:55 By: nayakutty
Dear friend
I have a genuine doubt about rabies. I would like to know whether the dog, which has vaccinated antirabby, is safe from rabies. Some of the doctors told me we have to vaccinate again if the dog is bitten by a rabid animal. If it is so what is the use of antirabby vaccine.
Is the rabies is originated from the body of dogs itself, without contact of rabid animal, bats, or raccoons.
Some people say if vaccinated a dog antirabby, it will not show the symptoms of rabies though its affected rabies. Is it true?
Please reply

We are trying to get our Rottweiler pregnant. This is our second time trying in the last 6 months. The first time she had a false pregnancy, but never tied with the male. We are using the same male this time. He is a proven dog. My problem is this: Every time he mounts her, he is not entering her, but going off to the side, or below her rectum. Her vagina seems more towards her tummy than towards her rectum and when he mounts her, he is mounting too high. So is missing her completly. I need some ideas as to how to proceed on this. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I've never had this kind of problem with my others. |

I am doing a project for school on dog intelligence, and thought it would be a good idea to include results form a test of my own, and to see if my results of different breed intelligence match what the experts say. It is a 70 question multiple choice test, and I was wondering if anyone would not mind taking a few minuets and taking the test about their dogs. Just emal me at spoonz28@hotmail.com and I would be glad to give you the test.
Thanks,

PLEASE CROSS POST:
Serendipity Rottweiler Rescue, Inc. is pleased to announce that it has filed for incorporation as a 501(c)3 organization. Serendipity Rottweiler Rescue is devoted to rescuing and rehoming Rottweilers in Alabama, Georgia, and the Florida Panhandle. Serendipity also puts great emphasis on educational efforts regarding the breed and responsible pet ownership.
The organization was founded by volunteers who love the breed and believe in giving something back. Its members and volunteers have many years of rescue experience and have participated in several venues of the Rottweiler world including conformation, obedience, agility, carting and herding.
All Rottweilers undergo a thorough temperament evaluation prior to entering the program and during their stay in foster care. All dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and completely vetted prior to going to their adoptive home.
Potential adoptive homes undergo a thorough screening process to ensure that the dogs go only to individuals who are responsible and understand the special needs of this breed. Serendipity will provide post-adoption support and educational assistance throughout the lifetime of adopted dogs.
The organization is currently seeking volunteers and foster homes to assist in its educational and rescue efforts. No special skills or experience are required of volunteers - just a big heart, time on one's hands, and desire to help homeless dogs. If you live in Alabama, Georgia or the Florida Panhandle we would love to have you join us!

Posted Date: 2001-12-11 17:04:51 By: rottpitmix
Anybody out there do any pulling with their Rottweilers or mixes and actually have any success with them? I have a mix, and the only way to get him to work or even try when the weights get high is for me or my brother to act like a drill seargent. He is still treated well, but we just have to "act" upset or very serious to get him to even try when it gets heavy. I like to kinda keep it fun and try to make a game out of it but he shuts down WAY early if he thinks it's getting kinda heavy. VERY stubborn, but I believe that's the norm with Rottweilers. So, if anybody pulls and has had any success getting full effort out of their dog, any advice would be nice.
Thanks |

About two weeks ago I bought our first Rottweiler puppy, Emily. She is 16 weeks old now and has joined our family consisting of four Papillons. They are getting along great and she loves to play with them. I thought that Papillons were smart and Emily is proving to be just as smart, already potty trained, hand commands at sit and lay. She is just as affectionate as our other babies and follows us around the house wherever we go. It was fate that brought us together and I am so glad that I found her. She also loves to play with grapes and it is a safe toy for her that keeps her entertained for a long while. Linda of Vero Beach FL |

I live in Northern California (Newark) and would like to find a local reputable/ethical breeder (also OFA certified, if possible) I have always had a great interest in this breed and would like a puppy for my family to enjoy and love, not so much for show. Rottweiler: amazing rottweiller stories
|
Posted Date: 2001-06-28 16:24:44 By: ozzy
Hi my name is Prudence, my husband and I are very proud parents of a beautiful, well behaved, male rottweiler. His name is Ozzy and he is 2 1/2 years old. We are so proud of him because at 3 months old he recieved parvo from the breeders. The vet told me it will be about 10-12 days before he recovers. They told my husband that he would probley die. We had to give him a chance, but was very nevious about having a huge bill and no Ozzy. So every chance we got we would pray to God to heal him. Everyday Ozzy lifted his head up a little high and got a little more strength. He came home the morning of the fourth day. The people at the vet couldn't believe it. They were amazed. Rottweiler: Looking for a Rotti

I am looking for a rotti pup that will be ready to go around the first part of September. This puppy will be a wedding gift to my fiance'. He had to put his rotti down after a neighborhood kid let her out of our yard. I live in Virginia and really dont want to make the puppy ride for a long time in a car. I am looking for a reputable breeder. I am willing to sign a spay/nueter agreement. We dont want the dog to show or breed, just to love. We are fully aware of the fact that pets are a life long commitment. All of our current pets are spayed/nuetered, there are so many homeless, unwanted puppies(and kitties) and I could not imagine adding to them. |
Rottweiler: Get the Word Out!!!

I am organizing a group in Northern Indiana, southern michigan for rottie, and other misunderstood breeds, owners. The point of this group is to go to places like parks, pet supply stores, and other places that allow dogs, introduce the public to our breeds, show them how they really are, and hand out fliers telling people what our breeds are really like. I've even been able to get the press interested in this. Also, I've been compiling stories of rotties (and others) doing heroic, wonderful things that the press usually doesn't print. If you are interested, want to give your input, or have any stories about heroic rotties (or other) let me know.

I am new here from a few other sites. I own three WELL TRAINED, WELL BRED rottweilers, Nik, Jas and Bear. I HOPE that we may be able to talk about rottweilers instead of constantly defending our great breed from people who believe our breed to be the devil. So here's my views on our breed's publicity one time only....
While I firmly believe that education solves most of mankind's problems, from reviewing some of these posts by rottweiler haters, I believe that in some cases it is nearly hopeless. But I see that it may have helped in another post, what a relief!
As a PO'd rottweiler owner sick and tired of the snide comments, the stares when I walk my dogs and the blissfullness of the ignorance of others trying to pass BSL - what can I say but BACK OFF!!! Get a life, get off of your computer and go educate yourselves as to what a REAL rottweiler is supposed to look and act like. You see, IGNORANCE breeds FEAR, which leads to HATRED. Simple enough.
I am sure that I am not alone in my opinion. Glad to have found this site.:) |

Im sick of all you rottie haters clutering this message board for rottie lovers, I want to give you people something to think about. We all know that rottweilers are used as police dogs, lets say one of your children is getting hurt (raped or beaten) an officer shows up with a rottweiler, are you going to tell him to leave and come back with a poodle? I dont think so!! So lay off the rotts because they might save someone you love someday!
thanks for your time,

Dog led park attack on boy jogger
By David Millward
Saturday, April 17, 1999
TWO dogs left court yesterday with their reputations intact after being cleared of an attack on a jogger. But a third was ordered to be castrated and muzzled after leading the assault on a teenager in a park.
It took a jury at Lewes Crown court two hours to "acquit" the two terrier bitches. Warwick Tatford, prosecuting, said: "Although they are only Jack Russells and are rather small dogs, in fact what happened was rather frightening."
The victim, who the court ordered should not be named, said: "Out of the blue, first one dog, followed by another two dogs, came charging up at me and for no apparent reason just started attacking me. I was stunned. It was quite quick, they started attacking my legs and jumping and biting. All over my legs I had a number of bites, they were scratching as well with their claws."
Eventually the dogs were rounded up by their owner, Christina Marcha |
