Pug: when to bring puppy home?
|
Posted Date: 2003-10-13 20:58:42 By: mydogteaser
Hi. My parents have recently purchased a Pug puppy from a local breeder. He was five weeks old yesterday. The breeder called today and told my mom that the puppy is ready to go home next weekend, when he turns six weeks. My mom called the vet and she said that the puppy must stay with its littermates until eight weeks for socialization. My mom called the breeder back and she said that everyone but one person was picking up their puppy next weekend. Does it pay to leave the pup there with only one littermate? I have been researching this on the Web and everything I read says that pups must remain with the mom and littermates until eight weeks even if they are weaned. One even said that it would be detramental to the pup's development to leave too soon. This is the breeder's first litter. Is she just ignorant of this or is it okay to bring the pup home next weekend? |

Pug: Wetting the crate
|
Posted Date: 2003-09-03 15:51:46 By: otis829
I have a male pug that is 2 years old. He is very much a "people person". My problem is this...when we leave and come home before we can get in the door he's clawed the walls and the door because he's so excited to see us. I've had to repaint and replace a doorframe. I purchased a crate for him to stay in when we are gone. I put a blanket in there for him to lay on but he's urinating in the crate. It doesn't matter if we're only gone 10 minutes....when we get back his crate is sopping. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm desperate! |

We have a new 12 week old puppy who has been sleeping in our room. We've been getting up during the night to take him outside to potty, as we want him to be outside trained. He's doing well with it, but having him sleep in our room really is disruptive to our sleep. What did all of you do with your puppies at night? |

Can you refer me to a great pug breeder? I am from Iowa but don't mind traveling a couple hundred miles (WI or ILL.) Thanks! |

Hi,
I hope this is not the wrong place to post my message.
I am attempting to locate a book entitled PUGSPOTTING: A True History of How Pugs Saved Civilization by Susanne McCaffrey-Saville.
Does anyone have a copy that they will part with? Or any suggestions on how I may obtain a copy. Apparently this book is out of print. I understand that it was published in November, 1999.
Any help on this matter will be deeply appreciated.
Pat

Hi. I'm trying to do research about my dog. I have a female pug who's turning 3 in October. Her name is Wrinkles. We've had her since she was 4 weeks old. She's usually very hyperactive and sociable. Last Friday afternoon, out of the blue, she became very lathargic . It also seemed that her neck was swollen. She's the runt of the litter so she's not very heavy. We think there may be somethng wrong with her. We brought her to the vet on Saturday. They ran tests on her and everything turned out normal. I'm bringing her to the neurologist this afternoon for further examination. We're very worried and concerned that she might need surgery. Has anyone ever come across anything like this? |

Hi,
I am new to this web site. This is actually one of my first two experiences on here. Currently, I am not allowed to own an indoor dog but I had a pug growing up and have dreamed of having more ever since. My children will be grown and out of the house in another six years when I plan to move and develop my own interests etc.
I am beginning to research Pug breeding for some future plans that I have. I would like to learn as much as I can until I can live my dream. I don't plan on having a large operation 3-4 dogs.
I am willing to take any advice you have to give. I also enjoy hearing about the joys of owning a Pug, they are a fabulous dog to own, I have many many happy memories. |

Does anyone have a problem with un-nutered male pugs trying to lift their leg in the house? Mine is almost 8 mo. old now, And I am still working on this. Although it is getting better, but he still does. I have even tried those so-called sprays and neutralizers. Any help please let me know. Or is this normal because he is not fixed. I can not have him fixed because he is for breeding. |

Pugs are the absolute best dogs; I currently own a three-year-old female. They definitely need lots of attention and they want to play constantly, so only get a pug if you want a playful, yet needy, dog. My pug is more like my child than my pet. Oh, and they can be bossy at times, which is also hilarious. Make sure you research the parents well before buying b/c they often have eye problems, which is something you want to avoid. Good luck!! |

My 14 year old son has wanted a Pug since I can remember. We lost our Great Pyranese to cancer over a year ago and I am finally ready to consider another dog. This time I would like to go with a smaller but sturdy breed. I would also like a breed that will warm up to other people & animals easier than our "protector Pyranese". Is this in anyway an accurate description of a Pug? We have been reading up on Pugs but I would like to get info from those who live with them :) |

I have an almost 9 year old PUG that I would love to see have offspring. I have had him since he was 10 weeks old and he is family. I know this is probably too late but I was just wondering if anyone knew if at 9 years, can pugs stud? He is the best dog in the world and I kick myself for not doing it sooner but I am checking into it now. He is papered through AKC and is an absolutely beautiful PUG. Anyone out there with advice. I am in Southern California.

I'm looking for an adult female black pug. I used to have one whom I loved dearly but my ex got her when we divorced. I'm so lonely for another but I don't want a puppy. I'd like to get one from someone who can no longer keep one. I'll pay up to $300 for one. I search pug rescue sites all the time but rarely see a black female. I'll come and get her myself if she's within 500 miles of where I live in north Alabama. She'll be my only dog (I've got 2 cats)and my little princess. I'll get her spayed and everything.

Im looking for any advice anyone can offer. My pug has a litter of puppies that are 3 weeks old today. When she was pregnant i was feeding her, her regular dry food and adding wet puppy food to it. Her stools became very very soft so after the puppies were born I switched her to just straight dry puppy food. This has not helped the problem at all, in fact im thinking it might be worse. We have been to the vet twice and return again tomorrow. She also has a skin problem which is negative in all tests to date. We have done the scrapings and a round of antibotics...any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks! |

I own a 4 year old 18 pound pug and I'm crazy about him. I want to get him a little sister (black) but would like to get one who is smaller than average so that it will be easier for me to travel with both of them. (Carrying around 40 pounds of dog would get tough.)I hear that there are breeders who breed with an eye to producing smaller pugs. Any suggestions? |
