Hello there,
I have a 6 month old female mini schnauzer. She has completed her first obedience class course. She is healthy and happy, and quite well behaved. It's just that she doesn't like children!
We live in an apartment, so we're always getting on and off the elevator with our pup, and for the most part, she sits quietly until it's our turn to get off. But if a young child tries to get on, or we come across kids on our walks, she goes a bit nuts. She sort of lunges at them and barks: it's very upsetting to the parents and the kid of course. When this happens I usually end up picking her up and holding her in my arms until we get off. I know this doesn't help the situation, but I feel so bad about the barking and lunging, I don't really know what else to do. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help her become more easy around kids? We don't know anyone with children: I'm a bit hesitant to deal with strangers' kids - I feel she's a bit unpredictable.
Any thoughts and ideas would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Sarah-Jane from Ontario. |
