I am thinking about breeding my mini schnauzer with either a Welsh terrier or soft-coat wheaton. Has anyone ever ran across a mix such as this?

we have a 5 yo son who is used to being around dogs that are not too kid friendly at relatives houses...we are planning to adopt a little mini boy soon. Is this breed genreally good with kids if raised with them from 10 or 11 weeks of age or so? Some people swear they're the best with kids, some say they're horrible.

I'm about to buy a Min. Schnauzer puppy, but I'm not clear on the propper age to buy them. Is the proper age 11 wks or is 8wks old enough, I know taking them to early can cause real emotional problems later in life, so I don't want to take them early. I don't know for sure because all my dogs have been 4 months or older when I got them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello there, I have a 6 month old female mini schnauzer. She has completed her first obedience class course. She is healthy and happy, and quite well behaved. It's just that she doesn't like children! We live in an apartment, so we're always getting on and off the elevator with our pup, and for the most part, she sits quietly until it's our turn to get off. But if a young child tries to get on, or we come across kids on our walks, she goes a bit nuts. She sort of lunges at them and barks: it's very upsetting to the parents and the kid of course. When this happens I usually end up picking her up and holding her in my arms until we get off. I know this doesn't help the situation, but I feel so bad about the barking and lunging, I don't really know what else to do. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help her become more easy around kids? We don't know anyone with children: I'm a bit hesitant to deal with strangers' kids - I feel she's a bit unpredictable. Any thoughts and ideas would be appreciated, Thanks, Sarah-Jane from Ontario.

I just got a miniature schnauzer puppy, he is 12 weeks old. I am trying to housebreak him. From time to time he poops in the house and then tries to eat it. He has done this a few times already. Any suggestions?

I am a proud parent of a salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer. My husband,kids,and I welcomed Spencer into our family two weeks ago when he was 8 weeks old. I came to love this breed when my mom bought a black and silver Mini Schnauzer when I was just a teenager. (that seems sooo long ago) Now that I have one of my own I have come to realize that I would like to know as much about this breed as I possibly can. I bought this pup with the soul purpose of being a family dog. However, I would like to stud him from time to time. Guess I would like to have his legacy live on when he is older. I took him to the groomer today for the very first time. The groomer informed me that the brown in his coat wasn't dirt...that as a matter of fact it was a tinge of yellow. Since I still don't know alot about Schnauzers I called the lady who sold him to me. She told me that it was normal for their coat to have that shade when they are puppies and it will lighten up to a sliverish color. (his dad is silver and his mom Salt and Pepper). So, the groomer tells me that he will probably be just a family dog. That he would not be good enough to breed. I don't know who to believe. If I remember correctly, my mom's Mini Schnauzer had a hint of this color on him too when he was a pup. Can anyone please tell me if this is normal? Oh yeah...the breeder told me it was called Champagine...NOT yellow. I would appreciate your help. Thanks, Missy

I bought my second mini schnauzer from a pet store, knowing that I probably shouldn't have, but my heart couldn't leave the 4 month old little girl there any longer. She is so attached to us (she is 10 months) but, she is quite hyper & I can't seem to get her trained near as easily as my other purchased by a good breeder. She is also much more aggressive. But, we love her just the same. She loves to be close to us & acts so happy to have found a home, so it has all been worth it! Dee4378@aol.com

Would anybody know if benedryl caplets can be given to a minature schnauzer or could they be harmful? Starlit is chewing her leg & I am thinking that it must be an allergy. Looking for suggestions on how to get ears to fold over on a 3yr mini male adoped from shelter

I have a 14 week old Schnauzer, who loves to play with 3 young cats (5 months). She gets too aggresive with them and

grabs their ears and drags them. The kittens cry out, but they really dont try to hard to get away. In fact they keep

hanging around her. She tries it with the older cats who hiss at her and put her in her place, but with these 3, the

aggression really gets out of hand. We tell her no, and she responds well, but then shes right back to it like

shes possessed. Putting her in her kennel or bringing her in the house really doesnt take care of the problem does it?

Hey...my vet put her on tenaril P for the coughing....now she has blood coming out...my regular vet change the medicine today to amoxicillin and something for the irrated bowels..her also said to get her pediat. cause she wont drink..now she is throwing up...the rice..which he said to boil rice and hamburger...for a bland meal..any ideas what to do...please help and thank you!

My 4 year old girl has been choking, or coughing especially when she eats her food. Her breathe has been bad at times smelling like boop. Does anyone have a suggestion what might be going on. She does not act sick. Thank You!
