The Greater Swiss Mountain Dog was not seen in the United States until the late 1960s and is still fairly rare today. They are calm and gentle animals that make fine companions for children. They take their guarding duties seriously and will announce any the arrival of strange person or animal. They generally get along well with dogs and other pets. This breed should be trained gently and with patience as they do not fully mature until 2-3 years of age.
