The Cocker spaniel is a sweet natured dog that is eager to please. They are intelligent and easily trained. Their long coats need to be trimmed every 4-6 weeks and brushed several times a week. Care should be taken not to overfeed this breed as they tend to become sedentary and overweight. Daily walks will help keep them in good shape. Cockers are good with children and other pets. They will bark to alert their owners to anything out of the ordinary but are generally too friendly to be considered a guard dog.
