Wheatens have a single layer coat and shed less than breed with double coats. They still require regular brushing to prevent mats. They tend to be gentler and more laid back than other terriers. The dog-aggression tendency of terriers is less pronounced in Wheatens and they are less territorial as well. This breed can get along well with children. The Wheaten should have access to a large fenced yard to run in as well as a daily walk on the leash.
