Like other northern breeds they can be a challenge to train, they are independent and quickly bore of traditional training methods. They were bred to pull heavy weights over long distances and need several hours of exercise daily to keep them calm. They are very affectionate with people and generally see everyone as a friend, making them poor watch dogs.
