Hi. So I am very worried about my dog. She is very picky about the food she eats. We tried smaller food, softer food, and moxing her food with things like gravy and wet dog food. For a long time she wouldn't even eat her food until, my guess is, she was to hungry to not eat it. Finally i discovered that she will eat her food as long as i mix it half and half with wet dog food. She became pregnant and had pups about 3 weeks ago and now she isn't putting on any weight at all despite eating everyday about 3 cups of food. And I also noticed that I think she is loosing hair. I assume this could from mal nutrition, but I just don't understand how she could be malnurished. I feed her everyday the same food, 1/2 dry dog food purina kibbles and bits and 1/2 wet leroy dog food and she always has plenty of food. I wonder if her having to feed her pups?? I am really worried and want to do whatever I can to get her weight back up to healthy and get her back on the right track...

I have a one month old puppy that has trouble with his hind legs. Is this normal? Maybe his motor skills have not fully developed or something. Does anyone have any information on this.

hi i have a 2 year old female shih tuz and she hates ben left on her own even when just puting the washing out she barks crying and will wee or have a poo when on walks she will try and bite and bark at pepole walking past me so have to be very carefull but i dont want to stop her from beening around pepole she is great with my four girls i took her to the vet and he told me to get a trainr but as it will coast me 300 houndred for 3 hours i havebnt got the money and not always works so can anyone help or hve them problems as well

We just noticed that our Shih Tzu has fleas. I know how to get rid of them normally. But at this time she is ready to have puppies anyday now. So i didn't know if it was ok to put the medicine on her. I was going to give her a bath with flea shampoo but it says not to use on pregnant or nursing dogs. Does anyone know how i can get rid of them while she is pregnant or after she has her puppies and is nursing?

Oh my God people, PLEASE don't give your pets aspirin. These questions are CRAZY, just take them to a vet! And if you can't afford one, don't let your pup breed, because it's *so* expensive to care for these babies. Besides, your dog will live longer and be less destructive if you have it spayed or neutered. The cost of the operation is way cheaper than cancer treatments or the cost of vet bills when your horny puppy gets loose and is hit by a car. Shih tzu are wonderful little dogs, and I'm a big dog fan- my favorite breeds are presa canario, dobies, shepherds and shih tzu. One of those things is not like the other! ;) Once they've outgrown their puppy restlessness, a shih tzu is happy to chill on your lap or at your feet. They're amazingly empathetic little dogs, perfect for older people who need a careful, cuddly friend. They can be stubborn though, training and housebreaking takes a lot of patience despite how clever the little monsters are. The good thing is that once you find your dog's motivation, they're very quick learners. They're also little piggies and will eat anything they come across if you don't keep an eye on them. It's *super* easy for a shih tzu to get obese, so get them walking and don't feed them scraps. Breeds with smoosh faces like this can have little attacks where they grunt and snort loudly and may panic, running away from you when you're trying to help. The soft palate has obstructed your pup's breathing when they do this, and a good way to get them past it is to gently stroke their throats while quietly letting them know they're okay, since it happens so often when they get too excited. If that doesn't help, put your thumb over their nose **JUST FOR A SECOND!!** and no longer, because it blocks his airway. Another thing to watch out for is disreputable breeders. A lot of backyard breeders sell shih tzu pups because of how popular they are, so be sure to know where you're getting your animal from. I don't recommend breeders anyway because there are so many of these little guys who need homes, and there are literally thousands of shih tzu rescue groups who will give you a pup for just a percentage of the price, and you'll be saving a life.

I got first one in 2004. she was old and had been very abused and i fell head over heels in love with the breed because of her.When we had to depart with her after four years it was like loosing a child.I got another female two years after my first and another puppy after loosing Pancake. they are very easy to train. be very kind and gentle but stern and lot of praise and they respond very well. use treats they love to eat,but be careful they will get over wt. pretty easy. use low soft voice. if you use loud or to over demanding they will not respond. do not challeng them in game of wills because if you do you have already lost. they love to please their master for nothing more then your love and happiness. I have trained alot of other breeds and the Shih-tzu is one of the easiest.

I bought a puppy a few months back that was sold as a shih tzu. As she has matured; the pudgy little thing that she was has become sleek and muscular. Her hair is short over most of her body with the exception of tail and backs of her legs and chest. The face, head and back has straight hair that is short. Is this possible? I was under the impression that all shih tzu had long hair. Have I been had? Or is this little girl unique?
